A former abbey of the Benedictine order, whose history goes back to the year 1064, sits enthroned on the Michaelsberg about 40 meters above the town of Siegburg. Over the centuries, the monastery grew to a considerable size and repeatedly had to deal with the Counts of Berg about rights and rulership.

Today some priests of the Discalced Carmelite order have found a home here and the Archdiocese of Cologne runs a social institute.
