New Laund Farm Cheese Press

Highlight • Monument

You will see a lot of cows whilst walking in the area.
In the Forest of Bowland, traditional cheese presses are significant historical artifacts that highlight the region's rich dairy heritage. These stone structures were essential in the cheese-making process, used to press curds and whey into solid cheese forms. Several restored cheese presses can be found along local hiking trails, offering a glimpse into the area's agricultural past.

This one is at New Laund Farm: Near Whitewell in the Ribble Valley, and dates back to around 1860. It provides insight into 19th-century cheese production methods.

River Hodder Stepping Stones

Highlight • River

Don’t forget the stepping stones over the beautiful River Hodder beneath The Inn @ Whitewell 👍

The Inn at Whitewell

Highlight • Restaurant

Quite a swanky pub, was featured in BBC's 'The Trip' with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. Can be quite busy with weddings at weekends, so road cyclists might not feel comfortable stopping among all the black Range Rovers and big hats. I must admit I have not stopped there on my bike but have added it more as a geographical reference point.

Hodder Bridge

Highlight • River

Just near The Inn at Whitewell, great views, especially to the north towards the Dunsop Bridge and the Trough of Bowland.
