A lovely mill pond, often with many mallard ducks, plus yellow irises in springtime.

Stainforth Force waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

Stainforth Force is a wonderful waterfall on the River Ribble in one of the Dales' most popular beauty spots. While it can get busy during peak times (bank holidays, sunny weekends, etc.), at other times of the year you often have it all to yourself. If you happen to be here during autumn, look out for salmon leaping up the falls on their way to their spawning grounds.

The picturesque village of Stainforth oozes quintessential Yorkshire Dales charm. Nestled within beautiful Ribblesdale, it is a great base for exploring the iconic countryside around Ingleborough, Pen-y-ghent and Fountains Fell.

The village and its immediate surroundings are a delight to explore. There's a charming packhorse bridge; tumbling waterfalls, Stainforth Force and Catrigg Force; a stepping stone beck crossing; and a great pub, the Craven Heifer, which also offers accommodation.

Goat Scar Lane

Highlight • Trail

The solid limestone surface of Goat Scar Lane makes for good running even in the winter when other trails are just mud. It's steep down the bottom but slackens in gradient as you ascend

A beautiful part of the Pennine Bridleway where the path is bordered on both sides by stone walls and appears to stretches for miles in front of you.

Nestled in a secluded woodland gorge, Catrigg Force is a hidden gem in the Yorkshire Dales. The composer Edward Elgar is rumoured to have been a huge fan of this waterfall and would hike here every time he visited friends in nearby Settle.
