Corran Ferry

Highlight • Rest Area

Brings you back onto the main busy site of the loch but don't worry there's a dedicated cycle path nearly all the way into Oban

Corran Point Lighthouse

Highlight • Viewpoint

Built in 1860, it has remarkably been automatic since 1898. Originally constructed to help navigation through the Corran Narrows, a 300 meter wide strip of water in Loch Linnhe, it is still active today with the red light visible for several miles. For those wishing to stay in the original Keeper's Cottage, you'll be pleased to note that the fog horn no longer sounds!

Camusnagaul Ferry Landing

Highlight • Settlement

If you take the ferry to Camusnagaul you have a nice view of Fort William and possibly also of Ben Nevis.
There is a small circular walk very close by through Crofters Woods.

Loch Eil South Shore Road

Highlight (Segment) • Lake

This quiet road runs on the south side of Loch Eil and is a safer and scenic alternative to the busier A830 on the north side. From Fort William, this road is accessed by taking the Camusnagaul ferry, a small boat running every couple of hours.

There's a picnic spot in the small hamlet of Blaich with a bench overlooking the loch and a small bay. At the east side near to Camusnagaul you'll find a woodland clearing direct views of Ben Nevis.

Glenfinnan Monument

Highlight • Monument

The monument towers over the Highlands on the edge of Loch Shiel. The tower can be climbed from 9:00 to 19:00, in autumn / winter from 10:00 to 17:00 for £ 4.

63.0 km

The views across to Ben Nevis are best from this area. Just down the road is the small Highland Ferries foot-passenger only ferry to Fort William. It's an irregular service, with no Sundat sailings, but part of Sustrans Route 78 so it will make a special journey to collect 2 or more cyclists who wish to cross.

63.8 km

This scenic section of road forms part of NCN 78, the Caledonia Way. It runs along the west side of Loch Linnhe and provides beautiful views over the water towards Fort William and Corran.

Much of the road is a smooth single lane carriageway with regular passing places. It's mainly an open landscape but some sections pass through serene woodland.

Although you'll need to catch a ferry at either end to access Fort William or Corran, this road is a much better and safer alternative to cycling on the busy A82 on the east side.
