Fernworthy Dam

Highlight • Lake

Fernworthy Reservoir's impressive dam is unmissable as you hike around the water. Made of stone with huge steps, it's particularly amazing when water is cascading over it. If you catch it on a dry day, it's even easier to see the huge amount of work that must've gone into it.

Highlight • Structure

Fernworthy Reservoir is home to myriad wildlife and boasts ancient stone cairns, hut circles and a submerged clapper bridge. The lake provides important wildlife habitats for many rare species including marsh fritillary butterfly and the bee hawk moth. You can also see birds such as snipe, heron and grebe all year round.

Fernworthy Forest

Highlight (Segment) • Forest

This is more of a plantation but there is lots to explore here from routes along Fernworthy Reservoir to stone circles in the woods. There is parking in the middle of the woods and your closest Tor would be Sittaford Tor which has a large stone circle near it.
