Scenic Route to Lochmaddy

Highlight • Cycleway

I took the "shortcut" through the island to Lochmaddy. It had beautiful scenery and the road was great! It's broad enough to have the few cars passing by you, give you enough space.
The scenery is stunning!
It's not too bad in elevation. But mind you, it's still an up and down situation.
With the wind in my back most of the way and the sun on me, I enjoyed this very much!

The Wee Cottage Kitchen

Highlight • Cafe

A well needed hot drink and bacon butty is available from this little roadside stop. the cakes look incredible and on a rainy day like ours we were very grateful of the hot chocolate.
The only hot drink/food stop on this leg of the journey.

Experience the unique opportunity of walking across the tidal flats to the beautiful Vallay Island in North Uist. It's essential to check the tidal times before visiting, as this walk can only be completed in low tide, and you must give yourself enough time to get there and back before the tide rises again. It's quite the adventure, and a bucket list opportunity whilst exploring the Outer Hebrides.

You can find all information regarding tides here tideking.com/United-Kingdom/Scotland/Eilean-Siar/Vallay-Island

View of Scolpaig Tower

Highlight • Monument

Built around 1830, Scolpaig Tower is a unique stone pillar towering on an Iron Age dun on an islet in Loch Scolpaig. It was built by Dr Alexander MacLeod to provide employment and help reduce famine. Today, the tower provides a nesting home for birds and is one of the most well-known monuments in this area of Scotland.
