Historic Buildings of Reitzenhain

Highlight • Historical Site

Originally built around 1905 as a customs house, this house, with its elaborately designed plaster and clinker facade with half-timbered elements, is of both regional historical and architectural significance. Most recently, it was used as a residential building. It has now stood empty for years. A lost place.

The bridge over the Schwarze Pockau (also Schwarzwasser, Czech: Černá) marks the border between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Czech Republic. It separates Reitzenhain in Saxony from the former town of Böhmisch Reizenhain. It is also considered the oldest existing border in Europe. It was established by Emperor Charles IV in 1372 and reaffirmed in 1459 with the Treaty of Cheb.

Site of the Zum Malzhaus Inn

Highlight • Historical Site

The "Zum Malzhaus" inn was the oldest of the three inns in Böhmisch Reizenhain. It was first mentioned in 1589. At that time, Hans Christoff Goldammer had purchased the Freigut in Reizenhain, which already included a flour and sawmill as well as an inn, with the privilege of brewing its own beer. Since the Freigut owner had to provide and harness the draft animals for the transport, many travelers stopped here. The last owners before the expulsion were Franz Hess and his wife Miez. At Whitsun 1955, the remaining remains of the "Zum Malzhaus" inn were completely destroyed.

Moor Stengelhaide

Highlight • Natural

Very close to the village of Kühnhaide there is a peat bog that has existed since the last Ice Age. A small educational trail leads you through the forest and you can find out about the plants, animals and special features of the moor on the boards. There is also a small wooden lookout point from which you can overlook the area. A trip to the moor in early to mid-June is particularly nice. At this time the cotton grass is in bloom and it looks as if a white, fluffy carpet has been laid over the moor. And if you're completely quiet, you might even hear the cuckoo calling.

Site of the Kornmühle Mill

Highlight • Historical Site

This hand-painted plaque commemorates the former location of the grain mill or cart mill. Hans Siegert, born in 1642, was the cart miller. He died in March 1704. His mill was destroyed by fire "for inexplicable reasons" after his death. It was never rebuilt.
