This route was planned by komoot.
The route is approximately 60 km long and typically takes around 2.5 to 3 hours to complete for an experienced cyclist. However, if you plan to stop and enjoy the sights, such as the fishing villages of Cala Figuera and Port Petro, or the Mondragó Nature Reserve, allow for a longer duration, potentially up to 4 hours.
This circular route starts and ends in Santanyí. You can find parking in Santanyí town, which serves as a convenient base for beginning your ride. Specific parking areas for cyclists are generally available within the town.
While much of the route consists of paved (43%) and asphalt (42%) surfaces, it also includes unpaved (8%), gravel (3%), and ground (3%) sections. There's a notable 'steep section of badly conditioned road (some 300 metres)' near Caló d'en Busques in Cala Figuera, and other parts with 'sand, stairs... not 100% rideable'. For optimal comfort and rideability, a hybrid or gravel bike might be more suitable than a pure race bike for certain segments.
The terrain is mixed, featuring quiet roads (70%), access roads (9%), and tracks (5%). Surfaces are predominantly paved and asphalt, but be prepared for some unpaved, gravel, and ground sections. The route has a moderate difficulty with an elevation gain of around 391 meters.
You can expect stunning Mediterranean coastal views throughout the ride. Key highlights include the picturesque fishing port of Cala Figuera, the charming Portopetro Harbour, and the beautiful landscapes of the Mondragó Nature Reserve. You'll also cycle along the Ses Salines Cycle Touring Route and a Scenic road between Cas Concos des Cavaller and s'Alqueria Blanca.
The best time to cycle in Mallorca, including this route, is typically during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these seasons, the weather is pleasant, temperatures are mild, and the crowds are generally smaller than in the peak summer months. Summer can be very hot, making cycling less comfortable.
Absolutely. Beyond the natural beauty, you'll pass through the traditional fishermen's port of Cala Figuera, where you might see daily fish unloading. The route also offers spectacular views from the Pontás lookout and passes through the protected Mondragó Nature Reserve.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the camí dels Establits del Pujol, camí de na Vallespira, camí des Bosquet, Camí de sa Punta, camí d'en Burguera, camí de Can Baco, camí de n'Amera, camí de n'Amera Gran, camí del Pas d'en Roter, camí de Can Blanca, camí de na Rosera, camí de sa Cova d'en Cabrer, camí des Carritxó, and camí des Morràs.
While dogs are generally welcome in many outdoor areas in Mallorca, specific rules may apply within the Mondragó Nature Reserve. It's advisable to keep dogs on a leash, especially in protected areas, and to check local regulations regarding pets in natural parks before your visit.
There are generally no entrance fees to cycle through the Mondragó Nature Reserve itself. However, as a protected natural area, it's important to respect all regulations, such as staying on marked paths, not disturbing wildlife, and taking all your waste with you. No specific cycling permits are typically required for this route.
Yes, both Cala Figuera and Portopetro Harbour are fishing villages with cafes and restaurants where you can stop for refreshments or a meal. Santanyí, your starting point, also offers numerous options.
The end of our Majorca vacation was supposed to be a 'gourmet tour' in fantastic weather, after 3 days that it wasn't so nice, we deserved it. I was lucky that I was allowed to ride a Canyon Roadlite ON, without a drive I wouldn't have been able to keep up with the other three either. With the e-bike it was a strenuous pleasure, I wouldn't exactly describe it as 'enjoy' 🥵! It was an all-round successful 'training camp'! Many thanks to Carsten for the great tours.
Today we went on beautiful finca paths through the southeast of Mallorca.
