Cardiff Castle

Highlight • Castle

Cardiff Castle's history stretches back over 2,000 years to the 3rd century AD, when a Roman fort stood in its place. In the 11th century, Norman invaders built a keep that still stands on the Castle Green today. William the Conqueror or Robert Fitzhamon probably commissioned the castle.

The castle is open from 10am - 4pm Monday to Thursday and from 9am - 6pm Friday to Sunday. The entrance for adults costs £12.50.

Blackweir Weir on the River Taff

Highlight • Structure

This impressive weir lies on the River Taff in Cardiff. On its eastern bank lies Blackweir Woods, an important habitat for plenty of wildlife and birds. There's a bridge above the weir, so you can watch the water rushing down – it's particularly fierce after heavy rain.

Cardiff Bridge

Highlight • Historical Site

Cardiff Bridge (known locally as Canton Bridge) spans the River Taff and is a central point of Cardiff, being closely linked to the Millennium Stadium and Cardiff Castle.

A crossing of some sort over the Taff into Cardiff has existed since Roman Times, with this version of the bridge being around since 1930. The bridge is now a Grade II listed structure and is an important link between Cardiff's western suburbs and the Vale of Glamorgan with the city.
