This easy loop usually takes under two hours to complete. It's approximately 6.66 km long with an elevation gain of about 93 meters.
Yes, this trail is generally considered easy and suitable for most fitness levels, making it ideal for families and beginners. The paths are easily accessible, though some sections, especially near Calanque de la Crine, can be rocky and require a bit more effort.
The trail offers breathtaking beauty year-round. However, be aware that between June 1st and September 30th, access to the Calanques National Park can be regulated due to fire risks, so always check conditions beforehand. Also, from May to June, it's advisable to use the northern path to Calanque de la Crine as seagulls may be aggressive in the southern path area due to chick-rearing.
You'll experience dramatic limestone cliffs, vibrant turquoise waters, and diverse Mediterranean vegetation. Key highlights include the Pomègues Island Summit, which offers magnificent panoramic views, and the tranquil Calanque de la Crine, perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the Sentier des Lys de Sable and the Sentier des Astragales.
While dogs are generally allowed in the Calanques National Park, specific regulations may apply to certain areas or during certain periods. It's always best to check the latest park rules regarding dogs, especially concerning leash requirements and restricted zones, before your visit.
There is no general entrance fee to access the Calanques National Park. However, access to certain areas, including some calanques, can be regulated or restricted, especially during peak seasons or high fire risk periods (June 1st to September 30th). Always check the official Calanques National Park website for current access conditions and any specific permits that might be required for activities like boating or diving.
Even though it's an easy trail, the Calanques massif has a rugged relief, so proper hiking shoes are highly recommended. Bring plenty of water, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and swimwear if you plan to enjoy the clear waters of Calanque de la Crine.
The trail primarily consists of gravel and unpaved sections, with a smaller portion being paved. While mostly easy, some parts, particularly those leading to Calanque de la Crine, can be rocky and require careful footing.
Absolutely! Calanque de la Crine is a tranquil and secluded spot, perfect for enjoying the untouched natural environment, swimming, or snorkeling in its clear, turquoise waters.
This loop is located on Pomègues Island, part of the Frioul archipelago. To reach the island, you'll typically take a ferry from Marseille to the Frioul Islands. The trail then begins and ends on Pomègues Island itself, offering a convenient loop experience once you've arrived by boat.
Our last excursion while in Marseille... an evening trip to Frioul Island 🏝️. My coworking space is just down the road from the harbour, so we hopped on the boat after work and took the short crossing over to the island. Did a walk along the south half of the island from the port, with a dip at Calanque de la Crine (maybe the best swimming spot of the trip). A beautiful place, with an easy path to walk and lots of strange abandoned buildings. Lots of feisty seagulls too! Breeding season so I'm not sure they were best pleased about the company... Got the ferry back after dinner and timed it perfectly with sunset 🌅
