This trail is rated as moderate. While some sections offer easy, shaded paths through spruce forests, you should be prepared for an initial demanding ascent and other steep, rugged parts. It's suitable for hikers with a reasonable level of fitness.
Parking is available in the vicinity of the trail, particularly near the starting points in the municipalities of Roana and Rotzo. Many hikers park close to Rifugio Verenetta, which is a common starting point for the loop.
While specific direct public transport to the immediate trailhead can be limited, you can research bus services to the nearby towns of Roana or Rotzo within the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni. From there, you might need to arrange a local taxi or walk to the starting point.
The route offers varied terrain, including forest roads, historic World War I mule tracks, and sections along ski slopes, especially during the descent. You'll traverse pastures and forests, with some parts being steep and rugged, and others easy and shaded.
The most significant feature is Forte Verena, a historic WWI fortress at the summit, offering 360-degree views. You'll also pass Rifugio Verenetta, and enjoy expansive vistas like the Panoramic View of Valdassa and Monte Portule and a View of the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni, including distant Dolomites.
The best time to hike the Monte Verena Loop Trail is generally between June and October. During winter, some sections are used as ski slopes and may not be accessible or safe for hiking.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, it's always recommended to keep your dog on a leash, especially in areas with livestock (malgas) or near wildlife, and to follow local regulations regarding pet waste.
No, there are typically no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Monte Verena Loop Trail or to access the general Altopiano dei Sette Comuni area for hiking. However, always respect private property and any local signage.

Yes, the route incorporates sections of other paths. Approximately 72% of the loop follows the official 'Monte Verena' trail, and about 9% overlaps with the 'Alle Pareti' trail, offering a diverse hiking experience.
Yesterday after hearing so much about this beautiful route I decided to do it in company. You park at the Verenetta refuge and via the ski slopes we went up to go down from the Mulattiera, a very beautiful and particular quiet tour. The refuge is strategically located, the fort is very beautiful and the view from the top is fantastic 🤩😍 what can I say? A tour that deserves a winter as it was recommended to me. We didn't have to use snowshoes or crampons
...and the other one isn't mine, it's from the shelter
