The terrain along this route is predominantly flat, making it suitable for a wide range of cyclists. The main routes are generally well-paved and easy to ride, though some segments may have unpaved sections. You'll be cycling on a narrow strip of land, La Manga, with views of both the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor lagoon.
You can expect stunning and diverse scenery. The route offers picturesque views of both the vast Mediterranean Sea and the calm, shallow Mar Menor lagoon. You'll pass beautiful beaches, charming seaside towns, and natural areas like the Marchamalo Salt Flats, known for their rich biodiversity, including flamingos and other aquatic birds. The area also offers opportunities for unique sunsets.
Yes, due to its predominantly flat and well-paved surfaces, this route is often described as easy to ride and suitable for a wide range of cyclists, including families and those seeking a less strenuous ride. While classified as moderate, it leans towards the easier end of the spectrum.
Key points of interest include the iconic Cabo de Palos Lighthouse, the ecologically significant Marchamalo Salt Flats, and the historic Salt Mills of Mar Menor. The unique geographical setting of La Manga itself, cycling between two seas, is also a major highlight.
The area is known for its good weather and many days of sunshine, making it attractive for cycling for much of the year. Spring and autumn generally offer the most pleasant temperatures for outdoor activities, avoiding the peak heat of summer while still enjoying mild conditions.
As the route starts from Cabo de Palos, you should look for parking options within the town. Cabo de Palos has various public parking areas, especially near the lighthouse or the town center, which provide convenient access to the starting point of the route.
Yes, there are plenty of opportunities to stop at local bars and restaurants in the seaside towns along the route, particularly in Cabo de Palos and various points along La Manga del Mar Menor. These offer convenient spots for refreshments and meals during your ride.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the Transmurciana 04, Transmurciana 05, and the Sendero del Mediterráneo - Murcia, as well as several local 'Paseo Marítimo' sections.
Regulations regarding dogs can vary. While the route itself is mostly on public roads and paths, specific rules for natural areas like the Marchamalo Salt Flats or beaches may apply. It's advisable to keep dogs on a leash and check local signage for any restrictions, especially in protected areas.
Generally, no special permits or entrance fees are required for cycling on public roads and designated paths within the Paisaje Protegido Espacios Abiertos e Islas del Mar Menor. However, as it is a protected landscape, cyclists are expected to respect environmental regulations, stay on marked routes, and avoid disturbing wildlife, particularly in sensitive areas like the Marchamalo Salt Flats.
The Marchamalo Salt Flats are a protected space known for their rich biodiversity. You have a good chance of spotting various aquatic birds, including flamingos, especially during migration seasons. The unique wetland ecosystem supports a diverse range of bird species.

Circuit on greenway. A little disappointed by the buildings all along the almost island. Tourist residences, lots of shutters closed... there's nothing natural about it anymore.
Lovely ride to Cabo de Palos lighthouse windy on the way there but a doddle coming back. It's always windy in la manga today gusts to 30 km. I am at the stage if getting back to cycling after a six month absence. Great to be able to do it.
