This route was planned by komoot.
The circular route is generally completed in about 3 to 3.5 hours. This estimate is for the hiking time itself and does not include stops for enjoying the views or taking breaks.
This trail is rated as moderate. While it doesn't present significant technical difficulties, it requires good fitness due to its length and elevation gain. Some parts are cobbled and uneven, so careful footing is needed, especially on descents. Beginners with a reasonable level of fitness should be able to manage it, but it's not an easy stroll.
The recommended starting point for this circular hike is Llanos de la Pez. You'll find amenities there, including parking facilities, making it a convenient place to begin and end your journey.
While Pico de las Nieves is accessible by car, direct public transport options to Llanos de la Pez, the starting point for this specific circular route, can be limited. It's advisable to check local bus schedules (guaguas) for routes that might pass near the area, but a car is generally the most convenient way to access this trailhead.
The trail features varied terrain, including natural paths, mountain hiking paths, and some paved sections. You'll encounter parts that can be rocky and rugged, as well as cobbled and uneven sections. The route alternates between undergrowth, volcanic areas, and serene Canary Island pine forests.
This hike offers unparalleled panoramic views. From the Pico de las Nieves summit, you can see iconic landmarks like Roque Nublo, Roque Bentayga, El Fraile, La Caldera de Tejeda, and the Tirajana crater. On clear days, you might even spot Tenerife's Pico del Teide and the Tamadaba massif. Other highlights include View of Roque Nublo and Pico Campanario (1,917 m).
While the trail itself is generally accessible, specific regulations regarding dogs within Parque Rural del Nublo (where this trail is located) should be checked. It's common for dogs to be allowed on trails, but often require being kept on a leash to protect wildlife and ensure the safety of other hikers. Always practice Leave No Trace principles.
Hiking this trail, which is located within the Parque Rural del Nublo, generally does not require a specific permit or entrance fee. However, it's always good practice to respect the natural environment and adhere to any local regulations or signage posted within the park.
The best time to hike this trail is typically during the cooler months, from autumn to spring (October to May), when temperatures are more pleasant for hiking. During winter, be prepared for varying weather conditions at altitude, including potential cold, clouds, or even snow, despite Gran Canaria's generally warm climate. Clear days offer the most spectacular views.
Yes, this route incorporates sections of several other official trails. You'll find parts of the Patrimonio Mundial de Gran Canaria, [CIMA LP06] Pico de las Nieves * Ayacata, and the Camino de Santiago de Gran Canaria along the way. It also touches upon segments of the S51, S-20, S-37, and various [CIMA LP06] routes connecting Pico de las Nieves to other towns.
Llanos de la Pez, the common starting point for this circular hike, offers several amenities. These typically include parking facilities, picnic tables, and barbecue areas, making it a convenient spot for pre-hike preparations or a post-hike meal.
If nature doesn't give you heart palpitations, some of the inland roads without guardrails will 🙃 Once at my destination, I see that they are letting controlled fires rage against unexpected forest fires. The walk was easy to do, lovely climbing and descending. And also playing tourist at the highest point, but reached on foot instead of by car. In any case... I enjoyed it 😀
This is a very relaxed tour that runs almost entirely in the shade of fragrant pine trees. One magnificent view follows the next and the Roque Nublo keeps coming into the picture. The start and end point are at a beautiful barbecue area, which invites you to linger after the hike. All the drivers will agree with me, the passengers probably less so, but half the fun is the journey. If you love serpentines and steep hairpin bends, you'll get your money's worth here😎. But I wouldn't recommend anyone to try to set a new course record; that pushes every passenger to the limits of what they can bear.
Absolutely not recommended! Mostly cross-country, off-road trails. Partly very dangerous, especially if you're descending a ravine! I double-checked with the mobile app. Plus, the trails are damaging the natural environment! Overall, I was wrong on 8 out of 10 tours with Komoot!

Mega hike through a varied landscape and full of brilliant views of the island. It took us almost 4 hours because we took a lot of photos and videos and just enjoyed the view here and there. Otherwise it would probably have been about 30-40 minutes faster. If we were to do the hike again, we would definitely bring a blanket and some provisions for a longer picnic and time in nature, as there are so many spots along the way that offer this. 🏝⛰️
It's best to start the tour before dawn. I was already able to enjoy the sunrise on the mountain... indescribably beautiful. One more tip: The descent from the Campanario is a little more challenging and you need good shoes and a good overview.
From the Presa del Horno via Llanos de la Pez to the Mirador Pico de las Nieves. Searched below the Ventana de Morro & Roque del Señor. Note: from the Mirador back to the hiking trail and turn left directly below the Mirador... Then continue over the Campamento (great view) and Montañon (scramble down high, beautiful, blooming plateau with great views at the top) back to the parking lot. You could also go further to the Roque Nublo... We were always alone, except at the Mirador (accessible by car).
