Road cycling

This difficult road cycling ring tour takes you from Costa Paradiso to Aggius, covering 47.0 miles (75.6 km) with a significant 4499 feet (1371 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 4 hours and 3 minutes to complete. You will experience a dramatic shift in scenery, starting with the rugged coastal beauty of Costa Paradiso, known for its wild nature, red rocks, and panoramic sea views. The route then leads you inland to the Piana dei Grandi Sassi, also called the Valle della Luna, near Aggius. Here, you will cycle through a surreal, lunar-like landscape dominated by large, unusually shaped granite stones sculpted by erosion, offering a truly unique visual experience. While mostly paved, be ready for some cobblestone sections and particularly steep gradients in the northern part of the route. The road surface was generally good as of April 2022. You can enjoy a magnificent view of the Valle della Luna from a strategic panoramic point. The route tends to be descending from south to north. You will also see Monte Pulchiana, Sardinia's largest granite monolith. The area around Aggius features a mountainous crown and offers views that allow you to imagine profiles of people and animals in the granite rocks. The road connecting Valle della Luna to Costa Paradiso is a stunning panoramic stretch. This tour is considered a difficult route suitable for well-trained cyclists. Roads in Sardinia often have light traffic, making them enjoyable for cycling. The trail seamlessly transitions from the dramatic, rugged coastal beauty of Costa Paradiso to the ancient, wild inland landscapes of granite monoliths and valleys, providing a rich visual journey. Cycling in Sardinia offers a unique cultural and natural immersion, away from heavily touristed routes, allowing riders to experience the island's raw beauty, quiet roads, and slower pace of life.

Picturesque, winding single-lane road

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Absolutely stunning stretch of road connecting from Valle della Luna through to Costa Paradiso. Mostly single lane, with lots of blind corners, caution is advised! Very variable gradients, with particularly steep sections further north, especially if you’re coming from the north you’ll need appropriate gearing. Overall descending from South to North. Road surface largely quite good as of April 2022.

It will feel like you are on another planet. amazing rock formations and landforms, photos don't do this sight justice. This place is known as Piana dei grandi sassi or Valle della Luna, not to be confused with that of Capo Testa in Santa Teresa Gallura.

This secondary road that connects the SP5 to the SS133 passes next to the imposing monolith of Pulchiana. The road surface is smooth and the landscape is surreal, it's really worth coming to cycle here!
