The Kop van Noord-Holland – unknown tulip routes in the Netherlands

The Kop van Noord-Holland: here we think of dunes, lighthouses and the ferry to Texel. But did you know that you can also find beautiful tulip fields here in the spring? An ideal route if you want to enjoy all the beauty this region has to offer, while at the same time avoiding the mass tourism of Keukenhof.

This 33-kilometre route starts at Den Helder station and is therefore easily accessible by public transport. You can take your own bicycle on the train (buy a bicycle day ticket) or rent an OV bicycle at the station. After 8 kilometers you will come across the first flower fields at Julianadorp. In the spring, between mid-April and mid-May, you will find vast fields of tulips in different colors here.

A few kilometers away, near the village of Callantsoog, you will find the next hot spot for tulip fields. In the background of the colored strips you can see a windmill. Can it be even more Dutch?

After this beautiful view, it is time to take in the special dune landscape. This route takes you past the famous lighthouse 'Groote Kaap', where you can take a break to climb the dune via the steps. There you have a beautiful view. The route continues on a car-free cycle path through the dunes.

Once you have arrived in Den Helder you cycle past the De Pannenkoekenvallei restaurant. An irresistible end to your bike ride!
