You will find a lot of ponds, ponds and lakes in the Kraichgau. Some are natural, others are man-made. You can swim in some, while others are a great place for a relaxing break. On this round you will discover some of the most beautiful waters in the region.
The start is in Knittlingen, which you can reach from the Bretten train station in just over 20 minutes by bike. Shortly after Knittlingen the first lake is waiting for you, the reservoir in the Weißacher Tal. The next lake on your tour is the Bernhardsweiher. It was created about 800 years ago by monks who raised their fish there.
The path now leads you slightly hilly through the forest to Sternenfels and on to Maulbronn. There you will find the impressive monastery, which is even on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. There is another fish pond behind the monastery. Past the Aalkistensee you finally cycle back to Knittlingen.

Many thanks to @Elke Holler from whom I copied this tour. A very nice tour, mostly away from traffic, with very easy cycle paths.
Today we went from Sternenfels to the UNESCO World Heritage Maulbronn Monastery (we have to go there separately to take part in a guided tour) and then partly back on the lakeside cycle path via Knittlingen. I particularly liked the route through the Weissachertal. However, we had to put up with a short section of pushing (too steep and bumpy through the forest).
Nice route, alternating uphill and downhill, everything on signposted bike paths, hardly any mud despite the heavy rain of recent weeks. Maulbronn is of course worth seeing, as are the other villages. Pure enjoyment, from just looking I didn't even notice how many meters we climbed.
