This route was planned by komoot.
The trail typically starts from the Capannelle-Ghisoni ski resort, which is located at over 1,600 meters in elevation. This high starting point makes the ascent to Monte Renosu more accessible. Parking is generally available at the ski resort.
The terrain is quite varied and challenging. You'll start in scrubland before ascending into a more mountainous, mineral landscape. As you gain elevation, it becomes rocky and technical, sometimes requiring the use of hands. The final meters to the summit can be dusty with loose rocks, so caution is advised. While some sections are difficult, parts of the route, especially towards lower elevations like the ascent to Lac de Bastani, are more gentle.
You'll experience magnificent scenery, transitioning from green pozzines (marshy grasslands) along the Pizzolo stream to a stark, high-alpine environment. A major highlight is the stunning Lac de Bastani, a heart-shaped glacial lake nestled in a granite cirque. From the summit of Monte Renosu (2352m), you'll be rewarded with an exceptional 360° panorama, including the Mediterranean Sea and Corsica's great peaks like Monte Cinto and Monte Rotondo.
No, the Monte Renosu Trail is generally rated as difficult and is not suitable for beginners. It requires good fitness, sure-footedness, sturdy shoes, and some alpine experience due to its rocky and technical terrain. While the high starting point makes it one of Corsica's more accessible 2,000-meter peaks, the ascent to the summit is still gruelling.
The ideal time to hike is between June and October. Early season hikes might encounter residual snowfields. It's recommended to set off early in the morning to avoid summer heat haze, which can obscure the panoramic summit views.
Essential gear includes good hiking shoes, at least 2 liters of water, snacks, and appropriate clothing for changing mountain weather conditions. This should include a windbreaker and headwear, as conditions can shift rapidly at higher altitudes.
The trail is located within the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse. While specific dog regulations for this particular trail are not detailed, generally, dogs are allowed on trails in Corsica but often need to be kept on a leash, especially in protected areas to protect wildlife and livestock. Always check local signage or park regulations before bringing your dog.
Generally, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required for hiking on public trails within the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse. However, visitors are expected to respect park regulations, which include rules about camping, fires, waste, and protecting the natural environment. Always check the official park website for the most current information before your visit.
Yes, the route primarily follows the 'Sentier du Monte Renosu'. It also briefly intersects with sections of the 'Grande boucle de l'Oriente' and 'La Sulana' trails.
The komoot tour for Monte Renosu Trail is designed as a loop, starting and ending at the same point, allowing you to experience the diverse scenery without retracing your steps.
Its accessibility stems primarily from the high starting point at the Capannelle-Ghisoni ski resort, which is already over 1,600 meters in elevation. This significantly reduces the total elevation gain required from the trailhead compared to other high peaks on the island, making the summit more attainable for many hikers despite the challenging terrain.
It was pretty hot today 🥵🌞⛰️🦎🐄🐏🐐 Corsica is a beautiful island with a lot of variety 👍🏻
The upper parking lot of the Bergerie de Capannelle served as the starting point. So I saved myself 100 unsightly scree meters. From the Lac de Bastani upwards, I followed the example of the mountain goats and chose the direct route (dashed in Komoot, partly climbing, not suitable for children), with always new views of the Lac de Bastani. The summit rewards you with a fantastic all-round view over large parts of Corsica.
Wow—what a breathtakingly beautiful hike. It first leads along a well-maintained but rocky path to Lac de Bastani, and from there, a gravelly path climbs high up to a wide ridge. From there, we hiked up to the summit of Monte Renosu. All in all, a manageable hike for all levels of hiker. Even less experienced hikers can do it with a little caution. The climb is strenuous, but the view is absolutely worth it. Also suitable for dogs.
Super nice top tour, great all-round view, many variations possible.
Comparatively easy 2000er, very nice view from the summit. The ascent along the lake is a little more difficult, if you like you can do the ascent as well as the descent.
One of the few very beautiful tours that we were able to experience in Corsica. The hiking trail was, for once, very beautiful and relatively well marked, and you couldn't go wrong. A very easy climb up a 2,000-meter peak in Corsica and highly recommended.
