Valtavaaran huiputus Trail – Ruka-Kuusamo

The Valtavaaran huiputus Trail is a wonderfully short circular route, but it does involve a fair bit of elevation gain. You will be rewarded with wonderful views across to Ruka and over the green forests of the Valtavaara-Pyhävaara nature reserve. And since there are three very different huts waiting for you along the way, you can approach the circuit quite relaxed.

The trail is within walking distance from the Ruka ski resort. It goes uphill right from the start. But you will soon have the opportunity to take a breather at the idyllic Valtavaraanlampi pond. The spacious hut there is equipped with a barbecue area and plenty of firewood. There is also a dry toilet here. From the summit of Valtavaara, you have a picturesque panorama around you next to the old fire station, which is now used as a day hut. If it is warm and sunny, you can enjoy your picnic on a bench outside. On the way down you can also rest in the Lapland hut Valtavaaran kota.

The way back takes you down more gently. You walk through an open pine landscape and partly over wooden planks, which keep your feet dry, especially in the wet season. Take your time, because from here on it's just a relaxed walk downhill and back to your starting point.
