The almost eight-kilometer circular trail Värikallion kaarros takes you on a journey back in time to the Stone Age. You visit the famous rock paintings of the Hossa National Park and walk through pristine forest along rushing waters.
It starts on the banks of the Lihapyörre, where you first dive into the forest with a pan to the west. After three kilometers you will meet water again: the rushing Somerjoki. Here you will find a cozy hut to take a break. A short detour takes you to the ancient Sami rock paintings. They are estimated to be at least 4,000 years old and show over 60 figures hunting and fishing. From a viewing platform you can watch them in peace.
From there you continue the loop along the Somerjoki. Another hut is on the way, you can even cook and grill here. With a view of the river, you stroll through the wonderfully fragrant forest back to the starting point of the tour.

Very interesting tour in Hossa National Park, very close to the Russian border. Once again we ate plenty of berries, visited rock carvings from the Neolithic period, enjoyed good food during the breaks and of course saw reindeer. Short refreshments in the form of rain showers were part of it. Camera was always well packaged, smartphone takes photos quite well too...
So, unfortunately it rained today. 🌧️ We practically had the national park to ourselves...
Easy hike with 3 fireplaces equipped with roofing and wood. A great circular hike
