Hohenstein Castle is the highlight of the SevenSummits. Not just because of the great view you have from the well-preserved castle. It also marks the highest point in the Nuremberg region. If you are interested in history, you can also visit the impressive walls. On the way you will also find some idyllic Franconian villages with magnificent half-timbered buildings.
You can reach the starting point of the tour with bus line 338, which takes you from the Hersbruck train station (to the right of the Pregnitz) to Kirchensittenbach. The first meters of altitude are already waiting for you shortly after leaving the village. After that it is initially quite flat and later ascends over beautiful paths in the direction of Hohenstein. The castle of the same name sits enthroned on a rocky hill above the village. From there you can see the Nuremberg region in all directions. The walls of the castle are open from March to November on Sundays and public holidays. On other days you can pick up the key by prior arrangement, you can find more information here: https://burg-hohenstein.org/.
After descending from Hohenstein, you stroll between typical Franconian half-timbered houses in Algersdorf. Shortly thereafter you cross the March cup forest, which is known for its impressive occurrence of early bloomers. Packed with new impressions, you will return to the starting point of the tour after a total of ten kilometers.

The last tour of this hiking weekend was done by the groups (day hikers and short hikers) together. A very beautiful tour with an unusual and remarkable stop at the "Windbeutel-Cafe".
Today we went to two more of the 7 peaks. Hohenstein with the castle of the same name in Kirchensittenbach started things off. This wooded hike led to Hohenstein Castle, an impressive complex with a great view, over narrow paths, easy paths and unfortunately also two short stretches of road. Even if the castle was closed today, the ascent was definitely worth it. On the way back you pass the Märzenbecher forest, a natural monument that is sure to be a great experience when it blossoms in spring. A very nice and recommendable tour, where sure-footedness is always an advantage.
Start at the school in the Mühlwiese in Kirchensittenbach. Hiking signs (red cross on a white background, blue horizontal line on a white background) are present. There is also a "seven summits" marking. There are always opportunities to deviate from the main path and adapt the path to your whim. At the beginning, the first, longer climb. Repeated forest shade. At least two sections on asphalt and in the open air - so take sun protection with you if needed. Weather today: approx. 20 degrees, sunny with a few small clouds. The climb to the castle is easy and partly runs over steps. Once at the top, the hiker will find a beautiful castle and a wonderful view. There is a key for the castle that can be borrowed from the Windbeutel Café. A small part of the path leads through the March snowflake forest. A forest area designated as a natural monument. The March snowflake is an endangered plant species. If you want to see the beautiful little flowers, come here at the end of February/beginning of March. Plants: clover, wonderful colorful flower meadows, beautiful old fruit trees, beech trees, stinging nettles. Food: The Enzensteiner brewery in Schnaittach unfortunately no longer exists. So today we went a little further to the beer garden on Kunigundenberg. Animals: sheep, chickens, lizards, slowworms, snails, butterflies, birds of prey, small tits and a wagtail, bumblebees, ants, small forest spiders. Found on https://urlaub.nuernberger-land.de.
... the tour is 300 meters behind you ... the tour is 180 meters to your left ... the tour is 480 meters in front of you 😡 ... TODAY IS NOT MY DAY
Today we went from Kirchensittenbach - with the castle and fortified church worth seeing with three galleries past the great natural playground through the valley up into the Märzenbechernwald. From there it was a short distance to Hohenstein and the Windbag Cafe. Delicious!!! A walk down and up to nearby Steinsittenbach was the digestive walk. We went back through the beech forest, which was not spared by the storm. A hike certainly also for the summer - with shade - or the fall. In addition to March mugs, we were also able to discover a daphne today.
