Leon lies at an altitude of 837 meters in the southern foothills of the Babia y Luna National Park. In the Middle Ages, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Leon, an important precursor to the Spanish state. Today, Leon is a modern and vibrant city with 122,000 inhabitants. The cathedral, the Plaza Mayor, and the many small parks are particularly worth seeing. There are beautiful promenades along the Bernesga River. I was pleasantly surprised by the Plaza del Grano. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city, a village-like setting suddenly opens up. A spacious square with trees, benches, a monument, a small chapel, and a great deal of peace and quiet. 24 degrees Celsius, warm, light cloud cover, calm, 45% humidity.
