Hiking
On this hike you will explore the plant sea of the High Vens via picturesque wooden walkways and overlook the unique prairie landscape from the highest point in Belgium.
Your tour starts at the "Signal de Botrange", a 24 meter tower with a fantastic view over the Venn. From there you follow wide wooden walkways into the vastness of the seemingly endless high fens - a moor area with diverse vegetation.
A part of the east Belgian long-distance hiking trail GR 56 takes you to the Walloon Venn, which is reminiscent of Scottish peat landscapes. Narrow paths take you back through light pine forests to the starting point of this beautiful hike.

Just like "recently" in Dartmoor and even more recently in Fanal on Madeira, we once again chose a foggy day for our moorland hike. An atmospheric trip through the Walloon Fens to Noir Flohay – the Ghost Forest. The raised bog is part of the High Fens (600 km², of which 133 km² is in Germany).
In my opinion, the Walloon Fens is a superlative fen landscape. A wide, seemingly endless fen landscape, garnished with partly untouched nature trails, a more beautiful fen landscape cannot present itself to the hiker. A pleasure for the senses and for those who appreciate the beauty of the Fagnes. Conclusion: One of my top hiking recommendations (*suitable footwear essential), which never gets boring even if you hike it several times. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on all sections.
The second tour of the day started on Belgium's highest mountain. A small hill was specially created here to get to the 700 m: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botrange The tour itself went through the beautiful High Fens. Sturdy, waterproof shoes are highly recommended. 😉 For dinner afterwards, we went to Baraque Michel, only a few kilometers away, from where some very beautiful hikes start: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baraque_Michel
Today we were hiking in the Walloon Fens in eastern Belgium. The landscape was very diverse, with a surprising amount of water...there were real rivers. The only disappointment was the last 4 km, of which about 2.7 km were stubbornly straight on a wide path, and the remaining stretch was also a straight, wide path.
We have been to the High Fens (today the Walloon Fens) very often. I love it, like that too Brackvenn 😍. Today we started from Signal de Botrange. I really wanted to go to Noir Flohay again, I think the landscape and above all the bizarre trees are just awesome. Even in rainy and cloudy weather, the view and the beginning of autumn colors were wonderful 😍.
Wonderful tour this morning in the Fens. The detour to Noir Flohay was very muddy, but otherwise wonderful. You sit there and hear nothing but a woodpecker.
What a 💩 start missing about 2 km today, had to park in front of Botrange because the road there was closed. Komoot had total dropouts today 🤦🏼 ♀️🤦🏼 ♀️, I don't know how many times I pressed continue during the tour. 6.9 I'm definitely not running, rather 4.9. It was still great this silence. It's good that I was there at 10 a.m. today and then the Venn was full 🤣🙋🏼♀️
At first we didn't want to go because it was raining so much, but we're glad we did, we got pretty wet at first, but with the right clothes it was okay. Simply a great landscape and wonderful colors even with the weather. Probably because of all the rain. but you can't get through the round without wet feet. But somehow it was fun
