This route was planned by komoot.
The route features a mix of surfaces, primarily asphalt and compacted gravel. A significant portion, especially along the Tagliamento riverbank, has been recently renovated with beaten gravel, making it ideal for gravel bikes. About 90% of the trail is cyclable.
Yes, the trail is generally considered to be of moderate difficulty for touring cycling, with minimal elevation gain (around 80 meters over 55.7 km). Many sections are suitable for all skill levels, including families with children, depending on their cycling habits.
The route offers diverse scenery, including picturesque views of the Marano Lagoon and the Tagliamento River. Notable points of interest include the Strada Bianca di Precenicco, a View of the Lame Idrovora Canal, and the Red Lighthouse of Lignano Sabbiadoro. You'll also find a View of the Laguna di Marano from the Lignano cycle path and the Tagliamento Cycle Path in Pertegada.
Spring and autumn are generally the best times to cycle this route. The weather is typically mild, and the natural landscapes of the lagoon and river are vibrant. Summer can be pleasant, but be prepared for warmer temperatures, especially during midday.
As the route is a loop between Latisana and Lignano Sabbiadoro, you can typically find parking in either town to begin your ride. Both are well-known locations with amenities for visitors.
Yes, the route incorporates sections of several official cycling paths, including the Ciclovia Adriatica, FVG 6 - Ciclovia del Tagliamento, and EuroVelo 8 - Mediterranean Route - part Italy 8. You'll also encounter parts of the Ciclovia del Mare Adriatico and the GiraTagliamento.
While the route passes through natural areas, specific rules for dogs, especially regarding leashes, may apply within nature reserves like Riserva Naturale Valle Canal Novo and Riserva Naturale Foci dello Stella. It's advisable to keep dogs on a leash and be mindful of wildlife.
No, there are typically no permits or entrance fees required to cycle this route. It utilizes public cycle paths and roads.
The diverse landscape, especially around the Marano Lagoon and the Foci dello Stella Nature Reserve, offers opportunities to observe various bird species, including families of mute swans, and other local wildlife.
Given that the route connects Latisana and Lignano Sabbiadoro, both popular towns, you'll find various cafes, restaurants, and accommodation options in these areas. Along the route itself, especially near Lignano Sabbiadoro, there may be establishments catering to tourists.
For this route, it's recommended to bring a gravel bike or a touring bicycle suitable for mixed surfaces. Essential gear includes a helmet, water, snacks, a repair kit, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Sun protection is also advisable, especially during warmer months.
Lignano too many pedestrians and cyclists on holiday... avoid!
We left from Pertegada and headed towards the Foci Dello Stella Regional Nature Reserve. Immersed in the lagoon we reach Aprilia and then Lignano and the Sand Nativity Scene. We pedal along the seafront until we get back to the Tagliamento embankment and then return to the starting point.
Gravel E-Bike ... Start in Latisana - heading east to the Fiume Stella, partly on the perfect "Strade Bianchi" - Fiume Stella downstream to the mouth of the Adriatic - along the lagoon by the sea to Lignano - in Lignano stop at "Punta Faro" with Aperol & Tostino - along the beach promenade to the mouth of the Tagliamento in the Adriatic - then upstream on the Tagliamento, mostly at dam level with a perfect gravel surface and a beautiful view of the Tagliamento to Latisana
Splendid gravel ride done on 20/02/23 between the Stella river, the lagoon, Lignano and Tagliamento. No particular difficulty, but on the return the FVG6 cycle path is interrupted after Pertegada and it is advisable to follow the road up to Latisana.
Cycle tour of the city of Lignano and the countryside behind it. I tried to cover as much as possible the routes dedicated to bikes, both in the city and outside, where most of the itinerary is on an easily passable gravel surface.
