You start in Maishofen and first cycle either via Prielau Castle or the Tauernradweg south towards Thumersbach. If you prefer the more direct route, you can take a look at our route from Maria Alm: https://www.komoot.de/tour/1060371887.
In the village center you turn left and a few meters later right again at the signpost. The route now takes you uphill on asphalt in a few hairpin bends, past meadows and short stretches of forest, until you finally reach the Enzianhütte. From here it continues on gravel, mostly through shady forest with some somewhat steeper passages uphill, until the supply road levels off a little at a good 1,700 meters.
Now the summit of the Hundstein is already in front of you, but it still seems far away. Now it's time to mobilize the last of your strength. Because after the long back, the last few meters to the summit get a bit strenuous again. The steep gravel road then takes you to the Statzerhaus on the summit. Done! Put your feet up, order a refreshment and enjoy the view.
The breathtaking view of the Hohe Tauern and Steinberge ensures satisfaction, because here you have made it to the highest grass mountain in Europe that can be reached by bike! After a well-deserved break, you head back down the mountain towards the valley with the destination Maishofen.
