This route was planned by komoot.
The L'Oasi Valle della Caccia loop is rated as a moderate hike. While many paths are easily accessible, a good level of fitness and sure-footedness are recommended for some sections. There is also a shorter, easier nature trail available.
You'll find a diverse mix of terrain, including unpaved paths, dedicated hiking trails, and some paved sections. A significant portion follows the Acquabianca stream, featuring a distinct white riverbed. Expect shaded forest paths, wooden bridges, and mountainous landscapes with gorges and caves.
The trail offers several captivating sights. Highlights include the spectacular 30-meter Acquabianca Waterfall, the mysterious Grotta Profunnata (a significant cave), and the Tana del cinghiale - Natural rock cavity. You'll also pass the beautiful Acquabianca stream with its clear waters and white rocks, and the serene Grotta del Muschio (Moss Cave).
While specific parking locations aren't detailed, the trail is generally accessible. Look for designated parking areas near the entrance to the WWF Oasis or the start of the loop within the Parco Regionale dei Monti Picentini. It's advisable to check local signage upon arrival.
As this area is a WWF Oasis within a Regional Park, dogs are generally allowed but must be kept on a leash to protect the local wildlife and environment. Please ensure you clean up after your pet.
The L'Oasi Valle della Caccia loop is beautiful throughout the year, but spring and autumn are often ideal. In spring, you'll see abundant wildflowers like orchids, and in autumn, the forest colors are vibrant. Summer can be pleasant in the shaded forest, but always check local weather conditions.
The L'Oasi Valle della Caccia is managed by the WWF within the Parco Regionale dei Monti Picentini. While access to the park itself is generally free, specific regulations or small entrance fees might apply to the WWF Oasis area to support its conservation efforts. It's best to check with local park authorities or the WWF Oasis visitor center upon arrival for the most current information.
The oasis is rich in biodiversity. You might spot birds like dippers and nightingales, and mammals such as wolves, wild boars, foxes, badgers, and dormice. The forest is home to beeches, birches, oaks, and rare black pines, with colorful orchids and other wildflowers adding to the scenery.
Yes, there are points along the trail with potable fresh water springs, offering a refreshing stop. You'll also find the Piano Canale Picnic Area, perfect for a break and a meal amidst nature.
Yes, sections of this route intersect with other notable paths. You'll find parts of the European Long distance path E1 - part Italy - Campania, the Riserva di Valle della Caccia, and the Sentiero Grotta Profunnata along the way.
Absolutely! An easier, shorter 'nature trail' of about 1 km is available, which leads directly to the Acquabianca Waterfall. This path features wooden fences, rest stops, and drinking water springs, making it accessible and enjoyable for less experienced trekkers and families.
Today we returned to Senerchia, in the Valle della Caccia on the Picentini mountains. We first visited the “Cascata dell’Acqua Bianca”, passing through the suggestive “Grotta del mosses”, then we climbed up to the “Profunnata” cave, that is, sunken, walking inside for about 150 meters, we stopped because we had to climb along a wall with ropes and it was not worth risking. We returned to the WWF Oasis from which we had started, making a loop, passing through Piano Canale. The morning was very pleasant, without wind, almost clear sky even if at 7:30 when we started the tour the thermometer marked 2°. Excellent as always the company of my adventure friends: @Aannunzi ( Angelo ), @Elisabetta , @Reborn( Renato) , @Roberto Marrapodi , @Alfonso Tagliamonte , @Libero Abele (Antonio)
Another excursion in the "Valley of the Hunt". With Renato, I reached the "Grotta Profunnata" with a circular route starting from the WWF Oasis of Senerchia. It was quite a challenging hike although we covered a number of marked trails. We encountered sections with significant slopes, others with stony ground, others with many leaves and melting snow on which one could slip and lose balance. For safety reasons we only visited the first part of the "Grotta Profunnata". It was a nice experience. Negative note is the state in which the entire route is kept. It can be seen that it has been missing serious maintenance for years.
