This route was planned by komoot.
That was probably nothing today... looked at three weather apps and looked for the avoidable driest corner of Carinthia.... Tour canceled after initially dry weather and returned to the hut shortly before the first massive hailstorm - very tasty 👍. Because of the threat of thunderstorms and further rain, the cable car was then closed - so wait for the dry phase and then off to the valley... After a good km then thunderstorms and constant rain - just before the parking lot then hail again.... Still a really nice corner there....
Three countries and three cultures meet here: Austria (Germanic peoples), Italy (Romanic peoples) and Slovenia (Slavic peoples). Please note: at the time of my tour, the Dreiländer chairlift in Seltschach was not in operation due to the insolvency of the operator.
So today is the icing on the cake. We set out for the border triangle of Austria, Italy and Slovenia. Since the cable car hasn't been running for about a week, the descent has to be done on foot and not by lift as planned. Nevertheless, the path from Arnoldstein leads us there first. We chose a very direct path for the ascent and are then also surprisingly quick to the top. 950 meters in altitude in 2:15 hours. Mostly through the forest, at the end over the ski slope. A group of Brits on their e-mountain bikes came flying up the mountain as we were taking our final photo. The weather is much more overcast than yesterday, but the panorama is still very nice. We walk a bit between the quite numerous monuments and the three countries. There's only a handful of other people here. We descend a bit to the Dreiländereckshütte, which is still open and thus allows us a culinary conclusion. We collect our last hut stamp and hike the much flatter, actual ascent path back into the valley. Every now and then you can still see the Göriacher Alm as a review of our tour. She was beautiful and it's already tingling to consider a next one.
