Cycling

This difficult touring bicycle loop between Morano Calabro and Mormanno takes you through the magnificent landscapes of Pollino National Park. You will cover 27.6 miles (44.5 km) with a significant elevation gain of 3015 feet (919 metres), requiring about 3 hours and 11 minutes. Expect ancient forests, deep gorges, and views of the symbolic Loricato pine, with vistas that can stretch to both the Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts.

Prepare for a challenging ride with ascents towards Mormanno and a climb up Serra mountain to Fortino at 1050 meters above sea level. Some sections are extremely steep, with gradients often reaching 15% or 16%, and while mostly paved, some segments might be unpaved and difficult, potentially requiring you to push your bike. This hard bike ride demands very good fitness.

The route is part of the larger Ciclovia dei Parchi della Calabria, which received the Italian Green Road Award in 2021 and is now integrated into the EuroVelo7 network. You will pass through Morano Calabro, often called the "Nativity Scene of Pollino Park" and listed among Italy's most beautiful villages, as well as the historical center of Mormanno. Pollino National Park itself is Italy's largest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

the old railway that from Morano Calabro climbs to Campotenese has just been renovated. Converted to cycle path, with viaducts and tunnels of the old railway that can be traveled in total safety.

Mormanno, a pretty village on the Calabrian cycle path. At this point, using binoculars (1 euro), it is possible to see the valley at the foot of Mount Pollino.
