The Helvetinistä East Route leads hikers to the breathtaking sights of Helvetinjärvi National Park in Ruovesi. The rugged landscape along the route opens up to the Iso Helvetinjärvi gorge valley and Helvetinkoluu, a 200-million-year-old rock pass. The route offers viewpoints, a rest area at a day hut, and a campfire site. The Helvetin Portti restaurant serves as the start and end point of the route. The route is mostly easy to follow: a wide gravel road at the beginning, a forest path, and wooden walkways at the end. The path to Helvetinkoluu leads via a steep wooden staircase. Walking on the rock pass is prohibited for safety reasons. The route is not winterized, but is often paved even in winter. The national park's landscapes have inspired artists such as Gallen-Kallela and Runeberg. The natural forests, small ponds, the sandy Haukanhieda beach, and the region's old tar pits offer beautiful sights. Author's Tips This is an international IVV route. If you follow the route, you will receive an IVV stamp.
