50 varied kilometers await you on this tour: sections on which you can let your bike roll wonderfully, as well as demanding climbs. You start your tour at the Wuppertal-Vohwinkel train station, which is very close to the Nordbahntrasse. However, you can only enjoy the rolling pleasure of the flat former railway line at the end of the tour. Because first of all it says: off to the hill wonderland. The first eye-catcher, however, is not an increase, but these are the picturesque half-timbered houses of the small village of Düssel, which you pass.
On side roads and dirt roads you then approach one of the hearts of Elfringhauser Schweiz: the Windrath valley in Velbert with its numerous organic farms and the rolling hills to the right and left of the route. With the Deilbachtal, the next pretty landscape follows directly. And where there are valleys, there are also mountains. However, this also means that you should pay attention to damage on the road, especially on fast descents. Because not all passages have perfect asphalt.
About halfway through the tour, you can prepare for a climb in a class of its own: a short wall with a gradient of up to 19 percent. There is no dotted mountain jersey waiting for you at the top, but there is a bench to take a breather. Or you can continue straight away – further uphill. Here you can spend yourself again, because soon you will leave the demanding and charming landscape of Elfringhauser Switzerland. On the Kohlenbahn cycle path and the Nordbahntrasse, the backdrop is becoming increasingly urban. You now roll relaxed in the direction of your destination.
At the start and finish point there is a public transport connection with the Wuppertal-Vohwinkel train station and a park-and-ride facility next door. There is another car park right at the beginning of the Nordbahntrasse. If you fancy a coffee break along the way, you'll find what you're looking for in the Hofcafés in the Windrath Valley at the weekend. There are also opportunities for coffee stops on the Nordbahntrasse.
