Hiking
This is a lovely 7.5-mile (12 km) hike with ancient woods and vistas along the way. I have spotted plenty of wildlife on this walk, including red kites, muntjac and roe deer, rabbits and plenty of birds.
You can achieve this hike in a much shorter time if, unlike me, you don't continuously capture photographs and manoeuvre up and down a hill or a trail to position yourself for the best shot.
• Start Location: Wendover woods, Hertfordshire. There's paid parking or you can park in the lay-by before entry into Wendover Woods, which is what I did, hence the obscure route at the start.
• Tour Type: Woodland / forest / farmland / open meadows / nature / countryside hiking (tough going in the mud)
• Toilets: At Wendover Woods and al fresco
