A very beautiful path on the sides of the rock of San Marin which requires good physical condition and a lot of vigilance.

From the modest top of Mount Titano, which reaches an altitude of 739 meters above sea level, you have a privileged view of the city of San Marino. It's really worth climbing up here to enjoy this unique panorama!

Guaita Tower (First Tower)

27.07.2003 - San Marino, one of my few favorite places, when we were children, we often stayed here, so in 2003 we booked 7 days and started our excursions from here.

Entrance of the Basilica di San Marino

Highlight • Religious Site

The predecessor building was first mentioned in 530 and had to be demolished because of structural damage in 1807. After a council decision in 1825, the church was built from 1826 to 1838 in the Classicist style by the architect Achille Serra and consecrated in 1855 by Bishop Agostinucci Crispino. The construction costs amounted to 40,150 scudi and 76 baiocchi. The church was built in 1926 by Pope Pius XI. raised to the basilica minor. On August 29, 1982, the basilica was visited by John Paul II, who blessed the relics and the church.

A bit steep, good hike definitely with hiking boots, difficult sections are well secured with ropes, path well signposted, doable with 🐕

I did this excursion not so much to see the historic center of San Marino (already seen other times in the past), but to dedicate myself to Monte Titano (over 700 m high) which is a long spur that emerges alone from the plain behind Rimini , very distinguishable even from a considerable distance. Departure and arrival from the valley station of the cable car; cable car which I didn't take as I preferred the beautiful paved ascent path. On the crest of Mount Titano there is a beautiful road/path that touches all three of the fortresses of S. Marino; in north-south order: Guaita. Cesta and Montale. The first two are museums. Along the entire ridge route of a couple of km there are numerous views of Rimini, the Romagna coast and the sea; as well as on the Apennine hills behind. To return, instead of passing through the historic center as is usually done, I preferred to take the beautiful 'Sterio della Rupe' which returns to the starting point, crossing the length of Mount Titano in the overhanging part, i.e. the one to the east, the one towards the sea. It is a path entirely in the woods, very little frequented and semi-uncomfortable, at times steep, in several places equipped with ropes or metal cable; however never dangerous or difficult. Which I highly recommend taking.
