Hiking
It is the only periodic mountain lake in the Grossarltal and can hardly be surpassed in terms of idyll: we are talking about the Schödersee, a really picturesque mountain lake in the Schödertal at the end of the Hüttschlag valley. To reach it, you definitely need sturdy shoes, fitness and surefootedness, because you will encounter a lot of water along the way. But once you reach the top and, admittedly, the entire way, you will be rewarded with truly magical nature. The tour starts at the Talwirt inn, which you can reach either by bus or by car. If you like, you can fortify yourself with local delicacies here beforehand or you can take a break there after your tour. The Hüttschlag valley museum is also located here. But now you are walking out into nature. Wide paths lead you through a wonderful floodplain and meadow landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park. After a while you reach the Ötzlsee with its natural Kneipp facility. Perhaps you would like to cool off briefly before the climb? Now it's uphill: over hill, dale and some slippery sections, the path begins to climb steadily. The route through the idyllic Schödertal valley keeps you close to the merrily rushing stream - an experience for all the senses. But suddenly it becomes quiet: the water now flows underground. And a little later, the Schödersee opens up in front of you. The periodic mountain lake only appears when the snow melts and after particularly heavy downpours. So you should definitely plan your tour accordingly. But even during hot periods, when the lake dries out completely due to its underground drainage, it is beautiful here in the Schödertal valley. By the way: along the path you will find numerous signs of the "Elementary Nature Trail". They tell you about the history, minerals, plants and animals in the Schödertal valley. A nice companion - also on the way back to the valley, which runs along the same route as the one that brought you up.

On the recommendation of the hiking seniors, we went to their Austrian vacation home, the Großarltal, and from there to the end of the valley in Hüttschlag.

Özlsee water was clear, enough fish 🐟 swam past, then we continued on to Schödersee, the climb was very rocky so it was better to take the hiking poles in hand ✋️ as it was getting increasingly smooth and slippery. Fabulous where the cattle run around over hill …
