Advertised as the "Wäller Tour" (completely misleading), but well signposted as the Wäller Georoute Watzenhaner Riesen, a wonderful hike. The subject of basalt accompanies me all the way: in road construction, in forestry road construction, or in all magnificent rock formations. An extensive rest at the Watzenhahner Riesen is highly recommended. A tip for all "dog companions": carry enough water with you, it's a whole corner over open terrain. But the rest is shady and has one or the other stream.
Today we went on one of the popular Wäller tours. We hiked a lot through the forest, which we had almost to ourselves. Only now and then did we hear the eager tapping of woodpeckers 🐦. Here you come across the former basalt mining everywhere and so we also hiked past impressive rock formations and former quarries. We were able to read interesting facts on numerous information boards. Today we are also ending the day with wellness and a delicious dinner😊
An unforgettable day in the Westerwald with Jan and our Whippet dog Asta. 🥾👬🏻🐕 The 13.5 kilometers on the Wäller Tour Watzenhahner Riesen offered us breathtaking views of the Westerwald basalt. From the impressive rock formations to the GeoTop Watzenhahner Riesen – the beauty of this region is simply indescribable. 🌳🪨And with every step the warm autumn colors and the unmistakable scent of fresh forest and falling leaves enveloped us 🍂🍁. ᵂ̲ᴱ̲ᴿ̲ᴮ̲ᵁ̲ᴺ̲ᴳ̲ @westerwaldliebe We hiked through old forests around the Watzenhahn and were enchanted by the legendary places and basalt formations. It was impressive to see how nature has reclaimed the old quarries of basalt and clay and how it provides a home for rare animals and plants. And of course the geo view from the Weltersburg castle ruins of the Limburg Basin was simply spectacular. A highly recommended Wäller tour! 🍂🌲🥾

Today we were out in the Westerwald and enjoyed the Watzenhahner Riesen (Wäller Tour). The tour is described as having been a hit since its opening at the end of July 2022 and has been very popular. Aha, on our hike today, we met exactly one other hiker, and the parking lot doesn't suggest that there are that many hikers there. However, this doesn't detract from the beauty of this hike, as it is truly beautiful. There are information signs with valuable explanations throughout the nearly 15-kilometer circular route. You should plan some time to read them. Time that you don't have on a group hike. Here is the hike as a Relive video: https://www.relive.com/de/view/vXvL5QPQG1O
After doing this hike with Bettina and Volker at Easter, I wanted to introduce it to those without hiking. It was a shame that the sky kept giving us fears that we might get wet. It was also very chilly. Just in time for our picnic halfway through, the 🌞 came out a little. Finally, we enjoyed the wonderful view from the castle hill. https://waellerland.com/attraktion/watzenhahner-riesen/ A happy day of hiking with 3 🐕, 3 🚹, and 12 🚺.
Today I went on a Wäller tour again and I wasn't disappointed. The Watzenhahner Riesen georoute. The parking lot was easy to find on the K95 and belongs to the municipality of Westerburg. There was a lot of information at the parking lot and a pleasant place to rest with a garbage disposal. There is a lot of forest and meadow landscape to see along the way, basalt formations, wonderful distant views and vistas, information boards about geology, clay mining, stories about the country and its people, about the robber barons and more. Nature is now delighting us with autumn scents, the autumn crocuses growing in the grass show off their beauty, the ripe elderberries are shining, the red hawthorn berries invite you to try them, the red rose hips look great. There are plenty of rest benches with a suitable view. A wonderful hike even in summer temperatures as there are many forest passages. The gradients are easy to manage and not strenuous. I now think the orchard trees with their fruits are wonderful. Sometimes you can find a good fruit in the grass.
GeoTour "Watzenhahner Riesen" - we were thrilled. In addition to great highlights, the tour also offers shady sections and nice places to rest. That suited us very well in yesterday's hot summer weather. Of particular note are the Kranstein, the basalt church in Willmenrod, the "Hollow Tooth" near Berzhahn, the Watzenhahner Riesen (old quarry) and the Geoblick near Weltersburg. Then back to the Kranstein, where you can also park well. Really great and highly recommended!
