Great tour, sometimes strenuous and good shoes are important
A beautiful, at times not entirely easy, hike that starts at the Hammershus Castle parking lot and initially leads downhill through a "magical forest" on a narrow forest path. After crossing a depression, we climb up to the so-called "Castle Heath" (Slotslyngen), a magnificent stretch of path with blooming heather and pine trees nestled between boulders. From the highest point, you can see the Baltic Sea and all the way to Vang. Shortly before Vang, the path bends back towards Hammershus, sometimes steeply downhill, then ascending again. Shortly before Hammershus, from a viewpoint, you can see the two "camel heads" far below in the Baltic Sea. Now, a steep, strenuous staircase takes us back up to the castle ruins, which we explore on a short walk. Finally, the roof of the visitor center offers a beautiful panoramic view of the castle.
When you have no idea what to expect on the hike, how it will meet your photo documentation requirements, and whether the outward and return routes were chosen wisely, I have to say in retrospect: Everything was done right, highly recommended, and I could repeat it anytime. We based our route solely on the official map posted at the parking lot near the Vang campsite. We started Komoot, used it exclusively in offline mode, and were unable to use any orientation aids on our phones. We were still able to successfully follow the marked trails and trust our intuition. Great tour!
It starts at the Hammerhus car park in the direction of Vang. Just follow the purple/yellow dots. At the waterfall after the sheep pasture, it goes down to the beach and along the water back again. Sturdy shoes are the order of the day here.
