We started the snowshoe hike from the upper car park. Attention, it is only possible until 10 a.m., after that only from the lower car park with a shuttle. Both cost 10€. We did part of the hike across fields to get the feeling of the snowshoes. You can also do the hike with normal hiking boots, but first ask the innkeeper at the Plätzwiese whether the paths are prepared. From the top you have a 360 degree view of the mountain panorama of Bolzano. On the way back you take the summer hiking trail past trenches. Have fun hiking.
Be sure to use the Strudelkopfsteig for the ascent, which starts just behind the mountain inn on the left. The climb behind the Dürrensteinhütte is really difficult, we used the path for the descent.
The Prato Piazza is a beautiful high plateau in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park and the Braies Dolomites. The Prato Piazza lies at an altitude of approximately 2000 meters. Our hike began in sunshine and under a bright blue sky. We climbed to the Strudelkopf on comfortable paths with beautiful views of the Dolomites. Meanwhile, the sky had clouded over, and many mountain peaks disappeared into the clouds. We had to wait a moment until the Three Peaks were visible again. We then descended along a beautiful mountain trail to the Dürrenstein Hut, from where we followed an easy, wide gravel path back to the starting point. It was fantastic 😍
Day 6, South Tyrol: Prato allo Sciliar. Today I took the bus from Toblach (runs hourly) to Prato allo Sciliar. From there, the trail continued gently uphill in waves, passing the Prato allo Sciliar alpine hut to the Strudelkopf. Once at the top, I was treated to a fantastic 360° panorama, including a view of the Three Peaks. For the descent, I chose the steep path to the Dürrenstein Hut. From there, a wide gravel path leads back to the starting point. The hike isn't too demanding, but the panoramic view from the Strudelkopf alone is worth it.
We start from the Prato Piazza car park to reach the summit of Mount Specie (Strudelkopf), at 2300 meters. Outward journey on path 40-40a, which is taken next to the wine chapel at the Prato Piazza refuge. On the way back I followed the path to the Vallandro refuge (Duerrensteinhuette), narrow and steep in places. From Vallandro, easy return to the car park along path 37. Beautiful views of Croda Rossa, Cristallo group, Tre cime di Lavaredo, despite a bit of fog
From the Plätzwiese car park, the path goes steadily uphill over meadows and scree paths up to the Strudelkopf. There is a height difference of around 300 metres. At the summit cross, you have a view of the Three Peaks, the symbol of the Dolomites and a World Heritage Site. But also a fantastic panoramic view of other magnificent mountain ranges. The path goes down via the Dürrsteinsteig to the Dürrsteinhütte, where you can fortify yourself with Ksiserschmarrn or sausages. The path down is, however, quite scree in places and is therefore only suitable for people who are good and safe on foot. The path goes back via a wide and flat walking path to the Plätzwiese.

The tour is not very demanding, but for me it is one of the most beautiful. You should arrive very early in the morning, as there are quite a few people.
