Head to the historic city of Winchester and indulge in a scenic journey around the northwestern corner of the South Downs National Park, surrounded by the clear waters of the River Itchen.

Begin your adventure by leaving Winchester and navigating charming country lanes that run alongside the River Itchen, passing through historic villages and a grand 17th-century country house.

Pedal through the villages of Tichborne and Cheriton, each home to inviting country pubs. Climb up to Wheely Down Farm Lane, where breathtaking views of the countryside and the English Channel await.

You'll descend into the quaint hamlet of Upham, then challenge yourself to an undulating section all the way to Shawford, where you can take a break at The Bridge pub next to Shawford station.

Return to Winchester via the impressive Hockley Railway Viaduct and the traffic-free Viaduct Way, tracing the crystal-clear waters of the Itchen Navigation.

Winchester station is well-connected with regular trains from London Waterloo, Clapham Junction, and Southampton. Additionally, an hourly Cross Country service operates between Bournemouth and Manchester. As parking in Winchester is limited, if you're traveling by car, consider starting in the village of Easton, where several on-street parking spaces are available.
