A “tossal” is the Catalan name by which the small elevations or hills of calcareous origin typical of the Pyrenean sub-Mediterranean mountains are known. The tossal d'Isòvol is included in the Tossals d'Isòvol and Olopte Protected Natural Area, in Baixa Cerdanya, and contains a very unique fauna, made up of Mediterranean species. It also has a rich and varied flora of continental and steppe species, many of which are unique to the area.

The Route begins in the town of Olopte, which you leave behind to continue south following the course of the Durán River. To the left you can see the tossal d'Isòvol whose ascent you start shortly before reaching Isòlvol. Until you reach the foot of this imposing hill, you walk through a pretty grove of trees along the river, ideal for keeping cool on warm days.

At the top of the tossal d'Isòvol you can access the viewpoint. Since it is located in the geographical center of the Cerdanya plain, you enjoy a privileged panoramic view of the region and also of the Segre river. From the viewpoint you can also observe some of the birds of prey typical of the area, such as the golden eagle or the boreal owl. From the top of the tossal, the Route continues descending again to Olopte, where you can visit the church of Sant Pere d'Olopte, located on a promontory that dominates the town.

Despite belonging to the Pyrenean sub-Mediterranean mountain, they are an area of penetration for numerous Mediterranean animal species, while their flora is continental and steppe.

Simple and clean path, but without any shadow or fountain. Maybe a good excursion for spring or fall when it's not hot.
