Attention! The Sentier des Roches is closed from November to April due to wildlife restrictions. And it is also generally closed to dogs, with a €450 fine. It is not known whether anyone is monitoring it. We saw several dogs, and at the beginning of November there were whole hordes of people out and about
There were some GPS inaccuracies on the steep sections. It was 10km
The Vosges Hammer, but only recommended for experienced hikers! A must and dream of the Vosges. With caution, suitable weather and healthy hiking experience, it is simply a pleasure Lorraine: Popular circular route https://www.outdooractive.com/en/route/hike/lorraine/vosges-santier-des-roches-col-de-falimont/224757420/
Another beautiful hike that shows Alsace at its best. This time only 1 mountain goat, but lying on a snow field. That gives a beautiful picture. Lots of green, flowers and mountain streams. Beautiful weather, wonderful walk.
Most of the people here already know the tour well enough and yet it is one of my favorite tours here in the Vosges. It always belongs on the new program. I have already done the tour 4 or 5 times. It doesn't matter - it is always fascinating and never gets boring. Alone the rock or better the Alpine path “Sentier des Roches” at the beginning of the round. Paths that are usually only found in the Alps and views that inspire again and again. The path stretches around the mountain flank for almost 3.5 km until you reach Frankenthal. Normally I am here on the wider path up to the Ferme Auberge but today the sign with the Frankenthal Felsenweg (in French of course, but I don't remember exactly how it was written) caught my eye for the first time. So go ahead and how nice it was a direct hit. First a wonderfully level forest path, a small timbered wooden bridge over a brook and then a steep rock path that ended exactly at the Auberge. Perfect - (you've probably known for years). Unfortunately, the farm is not the same since it is no longer run by the old men, but maybe it's just me. So further towards la Grotte Dagobert in front of which I found a wonderful place for my Vespers. Delicious and beautiful. There was too much going on at the grotto itself, so I saved myself the last 50m and walked straight up to the Schaefferthal. The first part of the route was already busy - more than ever before. It went on to the Schaefferthal even more slowly. Many people - alike - many different speeds. But it wasn't a problem, everyone was relaxed and we had a good time waiting, letting us pass and smiling at each other. Simply beautiful and also something special. From the Schaefferthal onwards, all dams were broken, which is why I immediately chose the path around Le Honeck (and not over) with a beautiful view of the Frankenthal down and of the Martinswand. Here it was again calm and contemplative. ;-) The path over the Vosges ridge is, as always, something special in itself. It goes back towards Col de la Schlucht on well-trodden, soft, sandy surfaces. Unfortunately, they weren't just soft everywhere and a slap on the ankle gave me ice to cool down and an Ibu after the hike. Well, if you're too stupid to look where you're stepping, something like that happens. In that case I did use the hammock to put up my feet in my magic forest. Magic forest simply because this low-growing hornbeam forest looks so enchanted and represents the last section down to the gorge. - Conclusion always nice.
Wonderful hike with real challenges and great panoramas
Spectacularly beautiful hike on the Sentier des Roches. Certainly one of the most alpine routes in this area. Coming from Munster, the start of the trail is behind the first parking lot on the left. You should be sure-footed and wear sturdy shoes. Many exposed areas are secured with handrails. There are wonderful views time and again and the path through mossy forest is pure idyll. Before the Ferme Auberge Frankenthal you could turn right and take the steep climb directly up the ridge that runs along the heights above the valley basin. However, the climb through the forest behind the Ferme Frankenthal is much prettier. Not recommended in rainy weather (due to the risk of slipping), but otherwise an absolute highlight in the region.
You have to do this tour once. Rocky, stony, narrow, bridges, footbridges, stairs made of stone, great views, through a crack in the rock, etc. At the top then over a plateau, again with a great view, and stop at a farm. Well, if only there hadn't been so many people who came across the path about halfway through the tour - then it would have been a brilliant tour 👌, but that took some of the joy out of me. Good shoes, a head for heights and sure-footedness are recommended.
