Hiking

Are you ready for a 15.5 kilometer walk through the Veluwezoom National Park? In addition to breathtaking heathland, there are also other highlights on the program today.

The walk starts royally with a visit to Rosendael Castle, which you reach through the beautiful park forest of Koningsberg. Not only the castle itself is impressive, so is the surrounding castle park. It is even one of the oldest parks in the Netherlands and there is plenty to see. Stroll through the landscaped park and pause at the shell gallery. Also take a look at the tea dome. Are the kids out and about today? The fountains and bridges provide fun for young and old.

You continue the tour over the sand plains and heaths of the Rozendaalseveld. Here the splendor of the lavender-colored heaths seems to go on and on. You will also pass two beautiful ponds. You look your eyes out!

After about 9.5 kilometers you can enjoy a cup of coffee at the Veluwezoom visitor center while enjoying all the beautiful things you just saw. If the children are with you, they can play outside here. Have you regained your strength? Then much more beauty awaits you.

You pass the coach house, which is built in Tudor style. While you marvel at the building, the children can romp in the natural playground further on.

Finally, a literal highlight awaits you, namely the Dassenburcht. Walk up the signature staircase and enjoy fantastic views of the area at the top.

The circular walk starts and ends at a parking lot. From Velp station it is about a 1.5 kilometer walk to this point. You can also decide to take the train to Rheden station and start the route at the station.

Veluwezoom National Park turns purple between the end of August and the end of September.

Rosendael Castle and Park

Highlight • Castle

Rosendael Castle was originally built in the 14th century, but over the years much has been rebuilt and added to. Not only the castle itself is an imposing appearance, so is the surrounding landscape park. There is plenty to do here for young and old. Take a look at the shell gallery and visit the tea dome. The fountains provide fun for the whole family.

When the heather is in bloom (between mid-August and mid-September), this area is truly magical. If at all possible, I would try to walk here at sunrise, because then the environment is even more magical.

Heuven Coach House

Highlight • Monument

This coach house was built in 1861 and in 1890 the stable behind the coach house was also built. The coach house is designed in Tudor style: this style was used for architectural and works of art in England at the time of Tudor rule (1485 - 1603).
