D15. Keadeen 653m, and Slievemaan 759m, Wicklow, Eire (Hewitts). On many of the peak bagging/outdoor websites I perused for this trip I noted there were very few route descriptions regarding ascents of the lesser known Irish Marilyns. This also applied to the availability of gpx files. I will therefore add relevant information and files that hopefully will provide assistance to future hikers/peakbaggers. It is possible to hike Keadeen and Slievemaan from Ballinabarney Gap just East from Baltinglass in the same day. You can use the same car park to start/finish at but this would add on extra 4km onto your hike or use the car park at each start location to save you this hiking time. Keadeen 653m, just East of Baltinglass. You start at a gravel car park at a forestry entrance at the start point which is big enough for 5-6 cars. No barriers or restrictions. From here you have to climb a steep dirt bank to access the the footpath that heads uphill and heads West. This path follows the forest and after about 300m you cross a style to get on the hill. After this there is a distinct path that takes you up gently all the way to the trig pointed summit and nearby there is an impressive cairn. The views are quite impressive. From here simply retrace your steps. Parking: Gravel forestry entrance car park for 5-6 cars. Route: Steep 2m bank to get up at the start. Good distinct mountain paths, gentle uphill in the main. Good open views of the Wicklows. Statistics: 6.8km with 302m height gain done in an all in time of 1hr 38min. Maps: Outdoor Active digital Harveys/Irish Topo.
