Day 7. Wexford & Wicklow Marilyns - Tara Hill 253m, Wexford, Croghan Mountain 606m, Wicklow & Annagh Hill 454m, Wexford. On many of the peak bagging/outdoor websites I perused for this trip I noted there were very few route descriptions regarding ascents of the lesser known Irish Marilyns. This also applied to the availability of gpx files. I will therefore add relevant information and files that hopefully will provide assistance to future hikers/peakbaggers. Croghan Mtn 606m, Wicklow, Eire (Marilyn). Straddling the Wicklow and Wexford border, Croghan Mountain (aka Croghan Kinsella) is about as far-flung as the Wicklow Mountains get. There are a few routes up but this one is via the wind farm. Parking is on the Eastern entrance to the wind farm. I had a 2m+ van so I parked at the wind farm entrance. If you have a car though there is a large car park with a 2m barrier opposite. The route is easy enough as you head through the whole forest on a forest track. It loops round and up in a reverse type of S. There are a few turn off’s but just follow the gpx track as it is spot on. Eventually you will come out of the forest and see a metal style. Once over, you follow a boggy track all the way to the top. The last 50m or so is steep to the trig pointed summit. I would like to mention the view but I didn’t get any due to the drizzly cloudy day. Nice walk though. Parking: At the wind farm entrance or the adequate car park opposite. Route: Forest track and a bit of high mountain path. Should be good views if you have a better day than me. Statistics: 8.2km with 350m of ascent done in 1hr 40min. Maps: Digital Outdoor active Harveys Super Walker.
