This route was planned by komoot.
We took the bus down to Amalfi. There was a huge crowd. We bought a few provisions. Then we set off. First there were lots of steps to the start in the Valle delle Ferriere. Then there were lots of old walls that used to be mills. It's amazing how people built them in the past. But they were beautiful lost places. The waterfalls were bubbling beautifully. It had rained a lot in the last few days. The climb took a while. With a few small detours, the paths were all in good shape. After a 6-hour climb we were back in our quarters.
Path accessible from the free parking located via Tuoro near the center of San Lazzaro. The first climb takes you by surprise when you are not warmed up ... it is very steep. On the way back a bus from Amalfi drops you off next to the parking lot in 1 hour.
Through the Valle delle Ferriere nature reserve and the "Valley of the Mills" to Amalfi (+250 m/-800 m/4.5 hrs.) We start the day with a short, sharp climb towards a high path between chestnut groves and mountain sides reach. We are rewarded with wonderful panoramic views over the valleys and terraces of lemon trees and vineyards to the coast. We hike further inland into one of the most interesting nature reserves in southern Italy, the Valle delle Ferriere (Valley the ironworks). * We immerse ourselves in lush vegetation with numerous waterfalls and discover long-forgotten ones Ironworks that once supplied the maritime republic of Amalfi with iron. We take a break near a stream before heading through the Ta of the mills in the direction of Amalfi. In Amalfi there is time to stroll, take a swim in the sea or have an aperitivo before a short bus transfer takes us back to Agerola.
Alleged walking time by locals of 2 hours = greatly understated. Few Signs, Beautiful Views. At the end of a short, steep section, apparently into the undergrowth, then soon on the right path.
It is a very panoramic tour, a bit long but without particular difficulties. There are no exposed areas and the paths are all fairly signposted. Passage through the valley of the ironworks. Return by bus to the starting point, San Lazzaro.
This tour is splendid, above all it is beautiful to arrive and enjoy the spectacle that is the Valle delle Ferriere after a real, tough, demanding walk. I don't want to exaggerate at all but this tour, to put it briefly, is selective but not in the sense that it is difficult but in the sense that, presenting various variations in altitude, it requires due attention in the descents on the rocks and the necessary effort in the climbs with steep slopes. But all this is truly worth tackling because the various points of beauty that you encounter along the way make the walk lighter, the effort more acceptable. I close by thanking my friends Gianfranco and Dino who allowed me to redo this beautiful hike that I had already done a couple of times but in my youth, quite a few years ago.
AMALFI COAST From Agerola (San Lazzaro) to Amalfi via Pogerola and Valle delle Ferriere SALERNO ITALY EXCURSION DATE: March 22, 2025 KM: 13 ITINERARY: CROSSING San Lazzaro (Agerola) Nespola -Monte Molignano - + Pogerola - Pogerola pine forest - Paradiso - Valle delle Ferriere - Via delle Cartiere - Amalfi DIFFICULTY: EE CAI TRAILS: 369A - 301 - 361A - 359 WATER POINTS: San Lazzaro, Pogerola, Valle delle Ferriere, Amalfi and Via delle Cartiere, some small fountains along the way, river. VEGETATION (in March): Contained along the route only From loc paradiso towards valle delle Ferriere growing brambles and fallen trees. ANIMALS: mules, calm dogs PARKING: san lazzaro free near the bus depot REST AREAS: valle delle ferriere also a table with benches, Pineta di pogerola (benches) Fantastic tour, I divide it into three parts: 1 part: from San Lazzaro to Pogerola...fairly simple path, only the initial climb on the road and the stairs before starting the route are a bit tiring, then the route is mostly flat, clean, clearly visible and well marked by the CAI. Before arriving in Pogerola, we left path 301 passing under a beautiful cliff then an off-trail not present on the maps, that is a mule track, also well maintained with some passages on rock, leads to an interesting ruin and a fantastic cave, continuing the tour we rejoined the CAI path 361a (I mark the entire route in highlights). Pogerola can be reached with other marked paths. The entire stretch is very beautiful, done with simplicity and serenity. 2nd part: from Pogerola to the Valle delle Ferriere: Starting from Pogerola up to loc. Paradiso, the route is mainly composed of stairs, the hiking section is very simple but... from the crossroads to continue towards the ferriere the situation for me was very disappointing. This section that takes the CAI path 359 is really in bad condition, at risk of someone getting hurt if it is not fixed and it is also a tourist route. PROBLEMS: For now the brambles are contained but in a few weeks the passage will be obstructed, many fallen trees obstruct the passage, a real path does not exist, you have to improvise on the rocks if you are lucky, I have not seen any signs. It is not a long stretch but you have to pay a lot of attention unlike what you might expect since it is a stretch made by tourists. (I point out the stretch in highlights) 3 part Valle delle Ferriere - Amalfi this stretch does not need comments, it is already known by half the world. Beautiful and simple, suitable for everyone. PERSONAL NOTES: Apart from the disappointment of the stretch between loc. Paradiso and Valle delle Ferriere, the tour was very beautiful and interesting, there are a series of crossroads so I recommend relying on a GPS track already made.
