The bird-watching paradise Oostvaardersplassen

Today's tour is more than 4 kilometers long and takes you past various bird hides and observation points of the Oostvaardersplassen. Not only at the viewpoints themselves, but also along the way, you can enjoy the varied nature of this area.

The route starts at Buitencentrum Oostvaardersplassen. Here you can not only obtain information about your trip and the environment, but also start quietly with a cup of coffee. When you're ready, head up to the birdhouse.

Bird lovers beware: don't forget to bring your binoculars! From the cabin you have an unobstructed view of the water, including all its unique inhabitants. The Oostvaardersplassen are known as a bird paradise for a reason. Do you spot the bearded man or the bittern?

On paths winding between forest and grasslands you make your way to the next viewpoint. From here you have a breathtaking view of the nature of the Oostvaardersplassen. Rare birds can of course also be hidden here, but keep your eyes peeled for other special residents, such as the fox and the gray goose.

Haven't seen your favorite animal yet? Don't worry, because a little further on you get another chance at the observation hut. This vantage point may be a bit more provisional than the cabin you just came from, but the animals don't care!

The trail may be closed in winter and early spring. Therefore, check online in advance whether the route is accessible, or inquire at the Buitencentrum.
