Hiking
Embark on a difficult 11.8-mile (19.1 km) loop tour from Val Gardena, offering a diverse hiking experience between the Sella Group and Vallunga. This route involves a significant 3659 feet (1115 metres) of elevation gain and typically takes around 7 hours and 50 minutes to complete. You will traverse varied terrain, starting in meadows before ascending through thick spruce and larch forests, eventually reaching more barren, rocky landscapes. As you climb, enjoy panoramic views of the jagged Cir mountains and the Puez-Odle Group, passing by the serene Crespëina Lake and the unique karst Crespëina plateau, sometimes described as a moonscape.
This loop is a full-day commitment, but if you prefer a less strenuous outing, the Vallunga section offers easier, family-friendly walks. These shorter excursions have more moderate slopes and are ideal for picnics, with opportunities to spot wildlife. The full route ascends into high-alpine landscapes within the Puez-Odle Nature Park, providing a refreshing break from more crowded areas of the Dolomites. You can also plan a stop at Rifugio Puez, a popular mountain hut along the way.
The Trekking from Valgardena loop is notable for exploring the often-overlooked Val de Chedul and Vallunga valleys, which tend to be blissfully quiet. Vallunga is recognized as a natural paradise, especially appealing to families due to its carved wooden animal figures along the path and numerous picnic opportunities. Keep an eye out for chamois, roe deer, sheep, and even eagles in these quieter areas, adding to the unique charm of this challenging yet rewarding Dolomite adventure.

This route was planned by komoot.
The start and finish is the valley station of the Dantercepies cable car. From here we went to Cir Joch. Partly strenuous ascents and descents (gravel paths), good footwear required. The prospects for this are phenomenal. Great tour 🥾👌.
From Wolkenstein we used the Danterpieces cable car and then started our panoramic tour from the mountain station. If we had walked from Wolkenstein, it would have exceeded the time frame. You should be a bit sporty to master this tour. But we noticed that young and old were traveling with us. This shows the popularity of the route. The only place that offers a rest along the way is the “Puez Hut”. Then we start the descent, which leads with partly very steep paths, a whopping 1130 m altitude, into the Langetal in Wolkenstein.
Start at the Dantercepies mountain station. Via the Cirjoch on the Europahöhenweg to the Puez Hütte. Continue along the Europahöhenweg to the descent into Langental past the Dusac.
Attention: 0.30 / 1 hour must be added to the moving time
We took the Dantercepies cable car up towards the Cir peaks. Views of the Gardena Pass and the Sellajoch accompanied us for a while before we went over the Cir Pass and the Crespeina Pass into the lunar landscape around the Col de la Soné. We hiked along narrow paths to the Puez Hut and took a short break there. The tour then led past the gigantic rock faces down into the beautiful Vallunga. A great hike that we will definitely repeat again.
Nice tour! Great views ... The descent from the Puetz hut into Vallunga is "superfluous" 🥵
Strenuous tour with breathtaking views of the rock massifs and valleys of the Dolomites
