Hiking

This beautiful hike of about eleven kilometers takes you to one of the most photographed places in Brittany: the house between the rocks. It is located at the tip of the Plougrescant Peninsula with a very impressive stretch of coastline full of bizarre rock formations. On the east side of the peninsula, the picture changes a bit and you finally hike to a bay with an infinite number of oyster beds.

Then it goes through the hinterland back to the starting point. After a short gap closure through a place, you hike through the beautiful bocage - a field landscape that is characterized by wall hedges, hedges and bends. After the wild coast, this part of the trail is a very welcome change.

Lovers' Rock

Highlight • Natural Monument

Facing the ocean, two rocks embrace like lovers bathed in tenderness. Sit next to them and admire the beauty washed by the shore.

The Plougrescant Chasm

Highlight • Natural Monument

This remarkable site, but above all impressive by the harshness of the landscape, increases tenfold the impression of being in hell during gusts of wind. At this moment, the breaking waves rush with tenfold violence between the huge blocks of granite, raising sheaves of foam blown over hundreds of meters!

The house is great. It stands in a protected area; one cannot leave the paths. The house is privately owned, as is the road to it. barrier closed. So you have to be content with a view from about 100 meters away.

The landscape there is beautiful. Great coastal scenery with the largest rock formations in the area.

Parking and public toilets are available. But no rest stops far and wide.

Very nice coastal path at Rastel. Here you have wonderful views of the coast and the bizarre rocks that become visible at low tide.

Oyster beds

Highlight • Other

Off the coast, the oyster beds are exposed every time the tide goes out. Then it's time for the oyster farmers to go out in the tractor and tend or harvest the farm.

Farm path

Highlight • Other

Here you hike over hedge-lined farm roads and pass small hamlets, pastures and groves. Every now and then you'll discover a few old relics like an old laundry sink or an overgrown tractor.

Trail Reviews

Chosli66, René und Angelika
July 24, 2024, Gouffre & Pointe du Chateau – Côte de Granit Rose

A beautiful hike along the coast with pink granite. Unfortunately it was cloudy the whole time so the pink color didn't really show. However, it would have been difficult to walk if the sun had come out as there was hardly any shade on the route. All in all a wonderful walk. As we read that there were no restaurants along the way, we brought food with us

Today we went on foot along the pink granite coast. As you are not allowed to cycle on the coastal path and you cannot see the beautiful views, we put on our hiking boots. It was a very long walk through the country along the road.

Today's excursion takes us to one of the most photographed sites in Brittany: the house between the rocks. At least that's my impression, because even on a weekday in the pre-season there are an incredible number of people out and about here. But it's also nice here. Our hike takes us along the very impressive coast with the bizarre rock formations and finally to a bay with an infinite number of oyster beds. Then it goes through the hinterland. First there is a long gap closure through a place before we can hike through the beautiful Bocage - a field landscape that is characterized by wall hedges, hedges and kinks. We even pass an old laundry basin overgrown with calla lilies. Then we come back to the coastal footpath (GR34) and end our loop at the house between the rocks. Here's @frankr's recording of the tour: https://www.komoot.de/tour/1104164464.

About 1.2 km of road towards the end are not so pleasant to walk, but otherwise the rest makes up for it! Great tour.

Only a few hundred meters from the small town of Plougrescant is the northernmost point of mainland Brittany. The rock formation with breathtaking views is called "Le Gouffre" (the gorge). In the immediate vicinity is one of the most photographed subjects in Brittany, a cottage wedged between two gigantic blocks of granite. With the help of a lawyer, the owner defends herself against photos of her house being published free of charge. Presumably for this reason, there are also two cars in front of the house, which should at least make it difficult to produce photos suitable for publications. Here are Anette's recordings: www.komoot.de/tour/1104163137

A hike on the Pink Granite Coast with a house among the rocks, several houses on rocks, a great many rocks and a gorge. But see for yourself.

Translated by Google

This tour goes partly along the Pink Granite Coast around Plougrescent. The coast is very original and makes a rough impression with the many large granite rocks. This is reinforced by the cloudy weather today. You always have great views of the sea. On the way in the hinterland some small hamlets with a lot of agriculture, especially vegetable cultivation. By the sea some farms that farm oysters. All in all a very interesting and beautiful hiking tour.

From CP Beg Ar Vilin, about 8.5km on the GR34 (circular hike, without luggage, easy trotting).
