Hiking

Here in Finistère, the world “ends” at a series of capes and rocky outcrops. The Pointe du Raz is one of the legendary highlights of the coast. The Pointe du Raz is up to 70 meters high and offers a sensational view of the lighthouse on the island of La Vieille and the island of Sein to the west.

The 15-kilometer circular hike begins in Plogoff and first takes you to the Baie des Trespasses, where the first surfers are already waiting for the wave. From there it is only a few meters to the Pointe du Raz, the westernmost point in France. The rugged cliff really seems to be the end of the world.

Then it goes along the coast on the GR34. You walk along a barren, treeless bank edge, which is populated by gorse, heather, ferns and other low-growing plants. Every now and then you will see mini harbors glued to the rocks of small bays and you will be accompanied by curious seagulls during the migration.

At the Pionte du Diameur you turn inland and are almost immediately swallowed up by lush green vegetation. Man-high ferns often line the paths or expansive trees provide cool shade. Sometimes the paths are almost overgrown and from time to time it continues on small streets. Soon you will reach the starting point of this great hike again.

Bay of the Dead

Highlight • Natural

The Baie des Trépassés connects the cliffs of the Raz headland (to the south) and the Van headland (to the north). This wide beach allows for many water sports. You will encounter surfers, kite surfers, divers, spearfishers, and brave swimmers without wetsuits.

The nature, and particularly the flora, are of a richness and beauty unique to the Cap Sizun. There are immense heather moors, dune grass patches, and paths lined with gorse.

Pointe du Raz

Highlight • Viewpoint

Here, Finistère fully justifies its name: the end of the land is celebrated in a parade of capes and promontories that brave the open sea. Classified as a “Grand site de France”, the Pointe du Raz rises to some 70 meters in height. Sculpted by the ocean and the winds, it alone is worth the trip to the region. Opposite it, the square lighthouse of the islet of La Vieille, lit in 1887, was automated in 1995. Beyond the untamed rocks and the emerald sea, the panorama over the open sea allows you to admire the island of Sein and on a clear day the Ar Men lighthouse.

At the extreme end of the Finistère stands the statue of Our Lady of the Shipwrecked. It was made of Carrara marble by Cyprian Godebski in 1903. With the child in her arms, she turns to a shipwrecked man crouching at her feet.

On the way you will find the ruins of an old wash house. The view across the old basin to Cap Sizun is magnificent.

Today's really great hike starts at the Baie des Tréspassés, an excellent sandy beach in a wide bay, which is also very popular with surfers. The entire tour leads - with the exception of two town crossings - on natural paths that lead as narrow aisles through very dense carpets of plants. The trail is sometimes quite demanding, especially in …

An absolute dream hike! And dreamy weather too

Wonderful and strenuous coastal hike with lots of sun and little wind from Plogoff to Point du Raz. Way back via Plage de la Baie des Trépassés, but the path recommended by Komoot does not exist or is not accessible.

A spectacular hike, with magnificent landscapes.
