If we had known how beautiful Tenerife is, we would have been here a long time ago.... Today the Anaga mountains (with the Matterhorn of Tenerife, as it is called) which again is so very different from the rest. My god, this island has so many contrasts in nature and weather if you drive half an hour by car. I'm officially impressed. Really something special 😍
February 17, 2022 Punta del Hidalgo was supposed to be our destination today, but then we saw the Anaga Mountains lying in the sun from La Laguna. Quickly rescheduled and our next destination should be Las Carboneras and then continue on foot on the high trail PR-TF 10.1..from here you always have the striking Roque de Taborno in mind...to Chinamada... A promising circular hike to the impressive mountain village of Chinamada. Only a few people live here in their cave dwellings.. but there is a restaurant "La Cueva". We continued past terraced fields to the Mirador de Aguaide. Here you can take a look down to Punta del Hidalgo. On a panoramic path, accompanied by trefoil, tree heather and laurel forest, past a goat farm of Cada Tamé, back to Degollada de las Escaleras. All the way you have magnificent views of the Anaga Mountains with its gorges. What a great day it was today.. to experience this area in bright sunshine and without trade wind clouds is a rarity. During our rest on the Plaza San Ramon, our thermometer even showed 42 degrees in the sun and the color yellow predominated today...not only the clover, but also the sow thistle are in full bloom.
Today we went from the small town of Las Carboneras to the old cave village of Chinamada. The path leads through the middle of the Anaga Mountains on narrow, partly stony hiking trails. The view of the mountains and the terraced gardens is almost reminiscent of South America. Arrived in Chinamada you can stop in the restaurant or go on to the viewpoint Mirador de Aguaide. Here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Atlantic, the steep cliffs of the coast and the Anaga Mountains. The way back leads first over a road with little traffic, and later over steep stairs to a narrow path above the road, from which you can once again enjoy a wonderful view of the mountains, the sea and Las Carboneras. All in all a scenically beautiful hike, away from the tourist hotspots.
A really great circular hike is this panoramic high-altitude tour in the Anaga mountains of Tenerife from Las Carboneras to Chinamada. The landscape here is cloudy and always green, with steep, densely vegetated slopes, idyllic villages and terraced fields. From the village of Las Carboneras you hike above bright green, deeply cut valleys with terraced fields in the direction of the coast to the small village of Chinamada. The Guanches, the original inhabitants of Tenerife, used to live here in caves. Even today there are still cave houses built into the mountain. Again and again the mountains offer a view of the sea - the most beautiful at the Mirador Aguaide vantage point. The views on this tour are gigantic!
Very nice hike through a wild landscape. Due to the trade winds it often rains here (we also had very light rain) and this leads to a unique flora.
This fairly relaxed circular hike in the Anaga Mountains is not particularly demanding technically and can be mastered even with less fitness. On the way from Las Carboneras to Chinamada you will be treated to fantastic views and will not be bored for a second because the landscape is simply incredibly varied. The agricultural terraces at Las Carboneras, the start and finish point of the tour, and the brightly painted houses in the village are reminiscent of the landscape of South America. The ups and downs take you along great paths with fantastic views of the rugged Anaga Mountains. The destination is the remote Chinamada - an old cave village of the Guanches (the original inhabitants of Tenerife). Only a few people live there, but you still get an interesting insight into the past. If your stomach is rumbling, you will certainly get your money's worth in the rustic La Cueva restaurant. Just behind Chinamada you can take a detour to the “Mirador de Aguaide” viewpoint, which is worth every meter. What a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean, the deep cliffs and the green hills of the Anaga Mountains! On the way back to Las Carboneras you will have a great view of the “Matterhorn of Tenerife”, the striking rock of Roque de Taborno, several times. After a short asphalt section there is a marked hiking trail to the right of the road that leads up stairs to a slightly higher path. At the weekend you can reward yourself after the tour with a visit to the rustic Bar Tesegre in Las Carboneras. The best way to process the beautiful impressions of the hike is with Canarian home cooking or a delicious Barraquito.
Today we wanted to go hiking in the Anaga Mountains again. About 9 million years ago, volcanoes formed the last northern tip of Tenerife, the Anaga Mountains. This lush green and very steep mountain range became a retreat for the Guanches (natives of Tenerife), who sought refuge here from the Spanish conquerors in the 15th century. Due to the fertility of the soil and the high humidity in the Anaga Mountains, the first European settlers created terraced fields. The paths are nice to walk and the landscape looks different after every bend. You can often catch a glimpse of the Atlantic. The area is also known for clouds coming in from the Atlantic. We experienced that. This created a very mystical atmosphere. A unique hike.
Great ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ circular hike on easy-to-walk paths. Parking available at the start.
