Church of St. Mary the Virgin, North Stoke

Highlight • Religious Site

Well worth a look inside this olde world church and step back in time. It has some true history built around circa 11th Century and mentioned in the Domesday Book but now in need of some proper TLC but still worth a visit.

Gurkha Suspension Bridge

Highlight • Monument

A suspension bridge existed at this site from the mid 19th century onwards until damaged by a fallen tree in 2009. Initially a normal footbridge was going to be the replacement but the local Amberey Society managed to pull a few strings and engage a Gurkha sapper unit to construct a replacement for the costs of materials only. A plaque on the far pillar records their exploits.

The Monarch's Way is based on the route taken by King Charles II during his escape after defeat by Cromwell in the final battle of the Civil Wars at Worcester in 1651. This section along the Arun is just one small beautiful section of it. Peaceful, tranquil and very pleasing to the eye.
