After a fairly vertical climb, provided it is short and not among the worst, finding that the valley opens up and offers a small plateau where you can regain your strength for a moment, but above all enjoying the beautiful landscape is one of my favorite things about hiking in the mountains. The pass is easily accessible from the Mezzeno huts (Roncobello) and allows you to descend quickly to the Twin Lakes or to reach various secondary peaks without too much difference in height

Twin Lakes

Highlight • Lake

Lake Gemini or Twin Lakes? The right name is in the plural, although the lake is one. In reality, when the water level is low, for example for dam maintenance, it is clearly seen that there are two basins and it was the hand of man that transformed them into a larger one.

Laghi Gemelli Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Laghi Gemelli refuge is one of the most famous refuges in the Bergamo area. It is located on the shores of the lakes of the same name, once divided, now incorporated into a single large lake. The refuge offers hikers a hospitable and warm welcome seasoned with traditional cuisine based on local products.
A circular route starts from Carona which passes by this refuge and various lakes, one more beautiful than the other. Along the path you pass through thick woods and green pastures on the slopes of majestic peaks that dominate the surrounding landscape.

Very pleasant tour, right from the start at the Mezzeno huts where we made friends with the locals; we left late (7pm) and during the outward journey some physical problems of the guys slowed us down a bit, but we solved them and the arrival at the Gemelli lakes refuge was very satisfying and pleasant. After a beer we set off again with headbands and everything necessary, a very pleasant return despite the darkness (in particular the passage from the Mezzeno pass which was sensational with the starry sky above). Recommended 8/10

The hike from the parking lot to the Laghi Gemelli refuge, including the return trip from the other side of the lake, is very doable if you're fit, although the most challenging part is the initial climb. I then ventured to the nearby peaks, following the suggestion of a route I found online, but I must say it was quite challenging as the route wasn't always marked and visible (without Komoot with the GPX track, I would have easily gotten lost).

Classic but always pleasant excursion, ... made more 'real' by a return all in the rain 🙃 ... and then at the Rifugio Gemelli you always eat well 🙂

A friend told me that 5 minutes from the refuge there was the Laghetto della Paura... maybe next time I'll look for it better🤣🤣🤣
