I designed this Collection with those who live in Milan in mind, and taking care to choose the most beautiful itineraries around the city that can be reached by train. In this Tour, however, you start pedaling right away, which makes it useful for all those people who - going against the grain - want to choose Milan to take... a trip out of town!
The Naviglio Martesana starts from Melchiorre Gioia, a stone's throw from the centre. Take your bike and immerse yourself in the greenery as you pedal east, following the flow of the water until you find yourself crossing the Adda. It is a route suitable for anyone, because the difference in altitude is practically zero. It's like a moving meditation, you get lost among the trees and the old villages that stand along the banks.
What was once a “river highway” built way back in 1471, is now a cyclist's paradise. To think that for centuries this canal has been one of the vital arteries for the transport and economic life of Milan. Now it is an oasis of peace: 36 kilometers of cycle path without worrying about cars or traffic. The route is mostly exclusive for bicycles. It is also a modular Tour. From Bellinzago to the city center the M2 metro runs parallel to the route. So if you get tired, you always have the option to jump on the first train and go back to Milan.
Along the way, you encounter hydraulic works dating back to the time of Leonardo da Vinci. And don't miss Trezzo sull'Adda with its Taccani hydroelectric power station, an enchanting piece of eclectic architecture that seems almost out of time. Once in Trezzo you have choices to make. The area is full of bars and restaurants, but if you prefer, the route is dotted with picnic areas and small beaches along the river. Now, you can decide to get back on the saddle and follow the road backwards or, if curiosity attracts you, you can go all the way to Cassano d'Adda. From here, a train will take you back to Milan in no time, and if you are a history buff, you can visit the town full of historic buildings and tales of past battles.

➡️I took the Naviglio della Martesana to travel it to the end in Trezzo sull'Adda.
This path in its entirety can be divided into 3 parts. ➡️The part is that town between shops, clubs and villas …
